Default The AI and Victory Conditions: A Question

So, as I make my way through my Macedonian campaign, in the early stages of my conquest of Italy and just starting into Asia Minor, I noticed that the Ptolemies are quite frankly blowing over the Seleucids, and a question occurred to me:

    Can the AI ever win?

I know that in Medieval II, it was possible. If the AI met its victory conditions before you did, it won. Given that both the Ptolemies, who are dominating the Grey Sniffle, and Baktria, which is the undisputed power in the further East (having eliminated the Saka and nearly finished with the Pahlava), would it theoretically be possible for the AI to win the game, if either faction managed to meet its victory conditions before I did, or would the game ignore it and continue until I was either eliminated (definitely no danger of that at this point), ran out of time (a possible issue), or won?

    Cheers.

I never had such a situation but, since the game let's you continue if you reached your victory conditions I assume the same would go for the AI-factions.
Anyhow, I shouldn't worry about Ptolemaioi conditions, they have to conquer Macedon before they have total victory, just don't let them ;)

Default AW: The AI and Victory Conditions: A Question

I dont think the VCs apply to AI factions. Otherwise Baktria would have won every of my 0.81 campaigns.

No, the eb scripted victories do not recognise AI victories. Otherwise, as you say, Baktria would win a hell of a lot. So would the Seleukids.

Ah, I see. Thanks to all for answering the question. I've never really made it very far in any of my campaigns (but this time I'm sticking to Macedon to the end, dammit), so significant AI progression never really occured to me. Hence it now seems entertaining and strange to see Baktria running all over the East, and the Seleucids caving to the Ptolemies (who are in turn struggling with the Koinon Hellenon in the Ionian region).

    Cheers.
