Is there any way to disband or otherwise get rid of an active diplomat? I had too many already but then one of them got this really bad trait that effectively made him useless. If it is possible to assassinate him I'm open to that as well.

No, don't think so, though Zaknafien did say something about alt right clicking with an assasin on one of your own characters will cause him to be assinated.
Never haerd any confromation for this, though.

If that doesn't work you could put him on a ship and then send it to play with pirates. Bit expensive though.
Can someone please report back on the use of assassins on your own characters?
Yea I just tried it and it really does work! Just hold the right alt and click on your diplomat (or any other of your characters for that matter) that you want to kill. As with any other target there is never a 100% success rate but with an experienced assassin it should be easy enough to successfully kill a diplomat that is by himself.
yeah I confirm, it's odd that, after 3 years, until 2 weeks ago I didn't now some RTW features (this and the weapon switch with alt-right click)Originally Posted by Diamondj

Same here. I think RTW is not very good with making those kind of things obvious. For years I was angry that I had to wait until my missile calvary ran out of javelins before they could run down an enemy and then just a week ago I found out they didn't have to wait at all!
well I knew that a skirmisher unit could charge with alt-right click, but not that the same alt-right click also make the melee units to switch to their secondary weaponOriginally Posted by Diamondj

Will that assassination on own characters work with family members too?
No, sadly it doesn't work on your fm's. You cant assassinate them.
Isn't there a kill_character command?
This space intentionally left blank.
You can only assassinate your agents using the ALT method, meaning diplomats, spies and assassins.
