Thread: Column formation for flanking

Is anyone using the formations capability?

I started using the line and double line for groups first and found them useful. Then I started using the missile/infantry/cavalry sorted formations for regrouping after a big clash.

Finally now I am using the column formation. I particularly like it for cavalry but also like it for 2nd line sword infantry. The column is quick and easy for maneuvering from one spot to the next without the troops bumbling and bumping into each other.

When I want to flank an engaged line with my cavalry or second line infantry, I just shoot the column past the flank at the double quick. Then I hit alt-right in the direction I want them to face and hit line formation. Its great! I can very quickly get a line of two or three cavalry formations facing directly into the flank of an engaged line. It works well with the 2 or 3 fast, hard charging infantry units like ghazis or militia sergeants. Just run around the flank, change facing and charge. It is devastating.

It is sort of like watching a football half time show with all the ballet like marching and maneuvering. Although every now and then, it turns into a cluster screw up. But usually works out well.

Nice idea Jagger. I saw the column formation but didn't give it much thought. I'll give it a try. Thanks.
