Their charge value is a bit too high... that or other cavalry is too low. We have a couple of things planned for cavalry for the next release.

@ Zarax: if you haven't already, try a 1.0 Pontic campaign on H/M. T'is a bit harder in the run, believe me. EDIT: ... and you're happy to have them.

Towards the end of the book, the Moties quote an old story from Herodotus:
"Once there was a thief who was to be executed. As he was taken away he made a bargain with the king: In one year he would teach the king's favorite horse to sing hymns."
"The other prisoners watched the thief singing to the horse and laughed. 'You will not succeed,' they told him. 'No one can.' To which the thief replied, 'I have a year, and who knows what will happen in that time. The king might die. The horse might die. I might die. And perhaps the horse will learn to sing.'"
Whatever their charge value might be, the current main issue with the Eastern Early Bodyguards is that their armour is for some reason 23 - which is what those Hai late bodyguard catas get...
Small wonder they're kinda excessively hardcore.
Given that the normal Eastern Heavy Cav has armour like 16, and the only equipement-related difference between those guys and the BGs is that the latter ride a fully barded horse instead of a half-bard one, the correct value ought to be something like 17 instead.
Mind you, properly used they're still just as crazy lethal as any other BG cav. I've on occasion demolished decent-sized Eleutheroi stacks with just one FM.
"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

What's scary about them is that I can take on spearmen with ease and melee with gaesatae (of course not without heavy losses) and still not loose my generals...
That said, they will be extremely handy now that AS decided that I was an easy target...
They already lost their first 2/3 stack against me and now they will have to face my main army that is gonna be redirected from sieging Pergamom to Ipsos and Sardis.
The best is yet to come.

Now on beta 3 with playable golden horde!
On Hayasdan my army was composed of 6 family members, and those did all the work.
