Hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread, I'm also curious about the pontic factional objectives.
I can understand the bosphoran sea conquest and around Anatolia, but having them to conquer the eastern adriatic isn't as logical imho.

Overall it's an area larger than the later ERE, quite ambitious for such a small faction...

Isn't it based on the kingdom's maximum size under Mithridates XYZ back when his gambit for regional superpowerhood was still going well and hadn't yet ran into the rather major log of the Roman empire and its somewhat idiosyncratic approach to any and all challengers ?
"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

    @ Zaraz:

I'm wondering too. Especially if you compare where the gov2 areas are ...

Towards the end of the book, the Moties quote an old story from Herodotus:

"Once there was a thief who was to be executed. As he was taken away he made a bargain with the king: In one year he would teach the king's favorite horse to sing hymns."
"The other prisoners watched the thief singing to the horse and laughed. 'You will not succeed,' they told him. 'No one can.' To which the thief replied, 'I have a year, and who knows what will happen in that time. The king might die. The horse might die. I might die. And perhaps the horse will learn to sing.'"

That would account for mainland greece and maybe part of macedon, not the whole eastern half of the adriatic sea...

What I forgot to post before:

the pontic V.C. regions in Europe (save for the Polish/Northern Ukrainian & Austrian provinces) are pretty identical to the maximum (European) extense of the Ottoman Empire in the late 16th/beginning 17th century, IIRC.

Is that relevant in anyway, or just an aside?

Guess, t'is more of an aside. Well, I do know that much of (real life) Pontic expansion plans, but I have a good memory for (historical) maps.

It would be nice if one of EB-team could give an explanation about the Pontic V.C. regions & V.C./gov2 regions.
