Why does Battlefield 2142 suck so much?

I played the demo a little while ago, and I thought it was basically the same as BF1942, but not bad. Some of the fighting in the Titans was annoying and kind of ... campy I guess you could say, but everything else wasn't so bad. I thought that it was stupid that there weren't any planes that weren't helicopters, but it didn't bother me too much.

Lately, everything I've heard is that is complete crap, though. Like I said, I liked the demo, but I haven't really played the game itself, so could somebody fill me in on its faults?

I think you'll find that most of the people who are complaining are BF2 players. 2142 came out at full price and has fewer vehicles, fewer maps, fewer weapons, and fewer options than BF2. What could possible convince me to spend my money on that?

As it turns out, nothing. I played the demo, but wasn't very interested. I guess it's a decent game, but BF2 is better and cheaper.

You get much less with the added benefit of having ingame advertising. Bulk of the bf crowd that doesn't accept that has the right idea. As a mod it would have been great, as a fully priced game it's suits looking for scraps riding the hype.

Annoying in-game ads aside BF2142 is just as Fragony said; a dull, uninspired game that comes across as being more like a mod than the next installation of the BF series.

Personally I have a strong dislike for games that preach to be a 'futuristic' take on 'realistic' combat. The overwhelming majority of them simply take the weapons and dynamic of modern combat and make them look 'futuristic 'enough to pass the muster. Hey, it's 2142 and I'm using a sub-machine gun that is about as accurate as the ones our great-great-great-great grandfathers used in the 20th century. Ok we've got flying bases & walking tanks... So where are the jump jet power armor suits? Nano technology? Genetic enhancements? Rail guns? EMP devices? Pocket nukes? Stealth suits? C'mon now...

BF2 is great but I really miss the simplicity of the original BF1942. BF1942 had a wonderful balance between infantry, vehicles, air and sea assets. Not to mention the fact that Desert Combat is one of the best mods ever made. I'm tempted to re-install BF1942 and experience the original glory.

Bland future-style makes it worthless to me. Stylistically on par with a clichéd, poor mod.

meh I liked it, I thought the titan battles were great and the unlock system is a lot better than in BF2 which keeps you plaing it longer. But I prefer the factions and era of BF2 so they're pretty much even for me.

I'd like to play 40K or Starship Troopers (the book not the movie) style of game too...
