Dude, "Complete Roman Army" might as well be "Gladiator" or "300" when compared to the book he's offering you.

Wow. That looks incredible. I wish I could afford it. Fortunately, we still have libraries in the US (even after 6 years of bushevik neo-communism!) so I can inter-library-borrow it. Thanks for the heads-ups. ZG

i browsed "Companion" in a shop a few days back. it is indeed a great book, but what i got on Romans already (Romans, yet again! all the shelves are stuffed with them) is more than enough.
and im not going to go for a degree in Roman military anytime soon, otherwise no doubts it would be my choise espacially considering nowadays £/$ rate.
bleh, im not a fan of Goldsworthy overmuch. He generalizes much more than he should.

Perhaps, but for anyone seriously interested in the Roman armies it has far, far more to offer than Goldsworthy and Connolly in their mentioned books, which are aimed at a more general audience. And in a field which requires a strong archeological grounding, I can't help but feel Goldsworthy was out of his depth when it came to his Complete Roman Army.Originally Posted by Sarkiss
