Default A Companion to the Roman Army

I work at a bookstore and I ordered a copy of this book, Companion to the Roman army. I looked through it, and it's cool, but i don't really plan on buying it (it's $175 new).

Here's the thing: I have a 40% discount at this store which puts the book at about $113 (a good twenty dollars better than the best used price on amazon) which is still too much for me. However, I know there's a bunch of you EBers who might be looking for a book like this.

So my proposal: If there's any of you out there who are looking to buy a copy of this book, I will happily send it to you if you pay for shipping it. I go by lobf on the ambrosiasw.com forums also (not too many lobfs around) in case any of you don't trust me for some reason and want to verify my do-gooderness you can contact pretty much any mod on those forums and they'll testify.

    So, anyone want this book?

P.S- I can order pretty much any book that's still in print and I always get my 40%, so if you guys are looking for other books too, I would love to do what I can to support this community.

I hope this £ to $ ratio will stay as good as it is for a couple more months yet. I'm coming over in June.

Dude, "Complete Roman Army" might as well be "Gladiator" or "300" when compared to the book he's offering you.

Wow. That looks incredible. I wish I could afford it. Fortunately, we still have libraries in the US (even after 6 years of bushevik neo-communism!) so I can inter-library-borrow it. Thanks for the heads-ups. ZG

im sure Goldsworthy and Connolly wouldnd be too pleased with your review of their work.
i browsed "Companion" in a shop a few days back. it is indeed a great book, but what i got on Romans already (Romans, yet again! all the shelves are stuffed with them ) is more than enough.
and im not going to go for a degree in Roman military anytime soon, otherwise no doubts it would be my choise espacially considering nowadays £/$ rate.

bleh, im not a fan of Goldsworthy overmuch. He generalizes much more than he should.

Perhaps, but for anyone seriously interested in the Roman armies it has far, far more to offer than Goldsworthy and Connolly in their mentioned books, which are aimed at a more general audience. And in a field which requires a strong archeological grounding, I can't help but feel Goldsworthy was out of his depth when it came to his Complete Roman Army.
