    Default upkeep

In my pahlava campaign i just noticed something. the upkeep for the daha riders is 200mnai, but for my catas is almost 1200 mnai... so i understand that the cost of the unit is around 3000 mnai more, but is such i high upkeep historycal? or just for gameplay? I understand that the armor was extremly costly to create, but was it so costly to sustain it? i mean a 1000 mnai seems a little exagerated

In EB the upkeep is linked to recruitement costs, what is absolutly historical/realistic because your units might live forever, your soldiers and their equipement do not. So upkeep also includes the costs for replacing men (and animals) that leave service due to age or die of accedents, diseases or simply run away. As well as it includes the costs for equipement (including horses) that has to be replaced or was simply stolen.

It's not a "wage" you pay soliders in cash. Consider this to be the money you loose because you gave those nobles land grants. So the money go to them, not to you.

On the other hand levy HA cost you almost nothing, as they go to battle with what they have all the time with them - horse and bow.

    So spamming HA is encouraged.

Meh. The catas are upper (at least semi-)feudal nobility right ? That means they have big-ass estates (presumably largely or entirely tax-exempt) to furnish the revenues for the expensive harness, the at least as expensive horse harness, a trained warhorse of high enough quality to carry the whole shebang, and the free time required to practice combat with all that. Plus of course all the other odds and ends feudal landholders need to take care of (starting with armed retainers, guards, other household staff...), not to forget their nigh-universal tendency to be varying degrees of pains in the ass for their monarchs...

Kinda the same thing as late-period Medieval European knights basically. Small wonder they cost like the dickies and don't exactly grow in trees - and cannot be used in great numbers.

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."
