Thread: Siege bug?

    Default Siege bug?

First of all sorry if someone posted this already, I tried looking for it but didn't see any other post about it or missed it.

Now then, a little siege bug thingy that I came across which isn't really that big of a deal but quite annoying, especially in the years when you are short of units etc. Sieging city and doing same amount of battering rams/towers/ladders as I have infantry, now if I'm playing on a faction thats General unit is usually infantry, when I'm assaulting the city after building the siegeworks or the enemy charges against my siege I find my general unit stuck with battering ram etc. and I can't drop it because the icon for dropping it is usually where the Rally button is, anyone know a good solution to this, other than "Don't build too much siegeworks"

Other problem I came across was that (I was playing KH on both problems btw) Epirote army sieged my city, and then assaulted it, but didnt attack the walls at all, now I'm assuming this was because of the Three-span arrow (or whatever it was called =)) thing they had with them, because this only happened with the same army in question having the Three-span arrow thing with them everytime they sieged a city of mine.

Anykind of help with the 2nd problem is appreciated because I find it more annoying than the first problem.

    Regarding your first issue,
Thats kinda wierd, When I played as KH (who as you know have Spartan hoplites as the general's bodyguards) that never happened to me. The only thing I can think of is that the siege engines have to be given to someone and if your general is the only unit capable of carrying one, they will go to him.

    As for your second question,
All you have to do is destroy the only unit capable of attacking walls and you will automatically win. Several times I have been attacked by an army that included one unit of elephants and no siege engines, and I when the beasts got close to my walls I killed them all with 2 units of cheap and crappy Hellenic skirmishers. If I were you I would create a diversion with a couple expendable units and then send in a reliable but also somewhat expendable unit of cavalry (something like Illyrian light cavalry is good for that kind of thing) to attack the stone or arrow thrower. You will immediately win when it is gones so even if your units are routed and being chased down by a faster enemy unit, what is left of them will be instantly saved.

I assume you play without time limit, but the time limit option for battles is there for a reason; if a battle hasn't finished in 40 or so minutes of real time, 99 times out of 100 something has gone wrong, like the AI deciding to beat you by waiting until you die of old age; that can happen in sieges where the AI will have the necessary equipment to attack the walls, but decides not to.

Diamondj, 1st: Yeah that is what I am assuming, but someone should add somekind of safety that the general unit even if it is infantry cannot take siege engines at all, or at least add the Drop icon for them somewhere.

2nd: Well consider the siegeing army has like 2 siege towers, battering rams and ladders, pretty much everyone of them is able to take walls, so basicly when they assault the walls and just stand there for the ~40minutes I lose the defenders good point, walls. And as far as I know the Three-span arrow thing isn't even able to do damage on walls/buildings + it isn't even firing, it just stands there, and I'm assuming it is because of this unit that the other units don't proceed with assaulting the walls. Only had this problem with the army using Three-span arrows, other battles work perfectly.

Tiberius Nero, I play with the normal time limit ~40mins(?) so it isn't just the AI's tactic of beating me by waiting me out.

hit the withdraw button on your general, then tell them to move somewhere. it will cancel the withdraw order and your general's bodyguards will be equipmentless.
