Yes, it's been raised several times due to my scarily long guides. The change is global so everyone benefits. It's a character limit, and AFAIK it includes spaces in the count. The Beginner's Guide with spaces included comes to a shade over 120,000 characters.
BTW, one thing I have learned from experience: the more you put into a post the longer it will take to upload. There's a time limit; put too much on and you'll go to a timed out page. Sometimes the post itself makes it safely onto the server, sometimes not. It depends where it times out; the forum needs to load the post and topic for you to view, and long posts slow things down. Multiple long posts in a topic increases the loading time still further. For this reason it can be better to make many, shorter posts instead of a single long one.
Of course, I class 6-8 pages in point 12 Times New Roman in MS Word as a short post, so don't get the impression that anything much longer than the average post will clog the system.
