Problem with eb1.0

I extracted all the 0.81aV2 files in a clean version of rome total war 1.5, but no icon appeared at desktop, and when i click Rome.exe starts the rome total war vanilla... What i did wrong?
And about 1.0, what should i do now?

You need to create the shortcut manually when installing with 7-zip. Copy your shortcut that points to 1.0, and modify it to point to your new 0.8x installation. My thought is to get that version running again, then to copy the preferences file into 1.0 so that we know there's nothing in it causing problems.

I deleted my preference files from my EB10, overwiriting them with these preferences, but still CTD when i start custom battle or campaing.

Okay, thanks! Now, to see if we can find what files make the problem in your case. This can be quite a tedious experience (more than already!), just so you're warned.

For the rest of this thread, 0.81aV2 = 0.8, okay? I don't want to have to type it out all the time.

I want you to make a complete copy of your 0.8 installation so you can revert to it at any time. Then to copy sets of files over from 1.0 to 0.8 until it crashes, at which point we may have found the problem.

The first I want to try is the diplomat and spy files, as these are in the vicinity of the crash in the Filemon log. These are any files matching the patterns diplomat* and spy* in windows explorer file search. Or copy the whole UI and models_strat folders for good measure. If it still works, we'll try some more.

I'm a bit shaky on what files correspond to which. Try this set. If it fails, it could be the problem but could also be a file that is needed when you copy something that references something else. Remember to delete map.rwm.

I never tought i would say this someday in my life, but, Yeah!! i Had a CTD!!!!!

Well, i took these files from my 1.0 installation an i've put them in the respective folders of my 0.8 installation.

I started the game, but before appears the menu screen, i had a CTD, what should we do now?

Somewhat surprisingly to me, it complains about a number of files under UI. Please try to copy that folder over.

Edit: Alternatively, we can go with the hypothesis that we've found the bugger, but I don't think so as it doesn't crash at the same point. You could try to restore the 0.8 and copy everything except these files instead.

Just to narrow down your culprits, it can't be hardware related unless bad drivers are involved. I have P4HT3, 512M RAM and FX5500. EB loads in 6 minutes or so and the script activation advisor takes another 2 minutes or so to appear but I play OK until RTW's memory leak strikes (takes about two hours to become a real nuisance) with most settings on medium and a few on high.

Seems I lied, I got a few hours today. Mouz, I know it's unlikely to be a hardware thing as 0.8 works fine. It's got to be something in our 1.0 update that screws it up for him and noone else .

The UI files don't seem to make any difference. export_descr_advice is among the files latest accessed before the crash. You could try to copy that one over.

Also, you should try to do the reverse. Restore your clean 0.8, and copy everything except the set that we tried that made it crash.

I think perhaps it's easier to try the intermediate versions on the way to 1.0 and see when it breaks, I'm obviously not able to isolate the problem this way. I'll have to make these available on my own computer, so I can't do it until thursday at the earliest.

I Start EB everything seems to be allright.
Then in the main menu i click on "EB-Campaign" an then this: "Select item from the list". But there's no list nothing i tried to reinstall Rome-Goldpack an Eb and so on and so an but all the times when i wanna just start the campaign this message comes.
Can anybody help me ? I'm a little be frustrated^^

You may have the wrong version of RTW. Make sure you are patched to v1.5 or v1.6.

Or, do you have some other RTW mod installed on your system?

I downloaded helix4 without problems, i extracted the files to the folder of my clean version of Rome Total War 1.5 . i started the game, but, before the appearing of the menu screen, the game is closed. here is the log :

Did you install on top of a v0.8x? Because you have to uninstall EB08x before you can install EB10...

Hmm, possibly there's a hotfix you'd need for it to run, I can't remember. I'll have to check how it works on my own computer first. At least the log is different from the 1.0 one, but I don't know if that's a good sign or bad .

Your RTW version is 1.5. Since you have the Gold version you autmatically have Barbarian Invasion which is 1.6 (If you take look at the options menu of both games you will notice that RTW is signed as 1.5 and BI as 1.6). So everything allright here.

can you make a screenshot of the "Select item from the list" screen ("print" button and then "paste" it in a graphic program like ms paint)? This might help us find out your problem.
