Correct me if I'm wrong but I understand that if I recruit a legion in Roma city and then ship it to, say, Africa and they suffer casualties the only way to rebuild their strength (retrain) is to put them on a boat back to Roma. This means that distant provinces will feature few, if any classical Roman legionaries as those will have to be withdrawn very often because we don't want them to bleed white.

I like my legionaries and the advantage they enjoy over their foes. I tend to be hesitant to hire barbarian mercenaries but I guess in this expansion pack I won't have other choices unless there's something I'm not aware of. Also, I have noticed many barbarian units are very tough and should perform at a level comparable to legionaries.

I'm very early in the campaign and haven't seen all the military buildings yet.

you are indeed correct, and thus will have to follow the path the Romans did themselves and ship fresh recruits overseas to replenish your veteran legions.

No, Rome is not the only town where you can recruit your legions. Most of your homeland regions in Italy with a high enough factional mic can train your facional units. Try the recruiment viewer (dl link in the stickied thread) to see what you can recruit where.

Later in the Game the Marian and Imperial Legions have a far wider recruitment zone than your Camillan or Polybian troops who are bound to Italy.

Your title needs to grow up first: Junior member has to becom Member before any fancy custom made titles & banners are possible.

junior members afaik can't have sig a banners, don't know when you get the member status, but it does not take long.

If you wish to keep your veteran legions, well, veteran legions, combine the best units while shipping in fresh new recruits regularly (rather than sending them back to be retrained). In my Marian armies, I could easily name my cohorts first through tenth based on experience, since some have been in the field decades and have 5 experience chevrons while other have just been shipped in. Gives me a nice little veteran core in each army, which stays veteran.

A good way to handle keeping your armies updated / full strength while migrating your troops back to places where they can be trained is to leave a small ready-reserve outside the walls of the town outside of the AI's usual path (I usually build a fort in these instances) where you can bring your units back to full strength and ship the smaller units back to your homeland for re-training. Costs a bit more but is functional.

After the Marian reforms you can recruit your legions pretty much everywhere where Rome historically conquered once building the barracks (and get some nice locale-specific Auxilia as well.)

For some of the other factions with weaker units, I might drop a client kingdom in a central area if I want access to, say, successor style units that can be recruited locally.

This is one of the aspects I personally like most about the way EB handles recruitment for pretty much anyone but Post Marian Romans (or Greeks who seem to be all over the darned place )
