Cities up for grabs Part II : The Assassins Strike Back

WARNING: Spoilers ahead (possibly)!

The Mongol Hordes are defeated!

The cost: 2 highly-trained Assassins and 3000 innocent civilians massacred!

Having reached Tblisi, the Mongols went rampaging through the streets. As my forces in the Yerevan/Tblisi area were very minimal (read: pathetic), I had emptied Tblisi of its garrison to reinforce Yerevan. Tblisi was sacked, 3000civilians put to the sword and the Rebels took control once the hordes moved on.

On the next turn, my Assassins began to arrive - having travelled over several turns from all the distant corners of my Empire - 3 from North Africa, 3from the Middle East, 2 from Antioch and 3 all the way from Hungary by galley. (That's 11 Assassins total for you numerically-challenged people out there! I know, because I used my spankingly brand new calculator to total it up! )

And like a pack of vengeful wolves/vultures/Stuka dive-bombers/chihuahuas/(insert favourite unit here), they fell upon the hordes!

And ye Gods! What a beating the Mongols took!

Three generals fell in the first turn! One of them the 9-star general and another was their Faction Heir. My losses: 1 Assassin.

The next turn, the Mongols promoted a Captain to General status; marched on Yerevan and were almost in sight to besiege. The Assassins struck again!

The newly promoted General fell quickly but the new Faction Heir (who was an 8-star General) was a lot more difficult. Another Assassin fell to him before he finally died, thanks to a well-placed cartload of hay under his bedroom window! (Gives a whole new reason NOT to smoke INDOORS)

Last but not least, came the Mongol Khan... My Assassins, who had a mere 15% chance of assassinating some of the other Generals, had a whopping 87%(!!!) chance to do him in. Which they did - swiftly, calmly, cleanly and entirely without incident...

And the remaining hordes... DISAPPEARED!

Completely! *huge sigh of relief*

Show's over! Back to the fields, peasants!

(I'll be posting a quick guide later on Assassins, and the use thereof if anyone's interested)

The remainder must be out there though ? Fog of war ? I've never tried this so I don't know if they just disappear. I have had stacks of rebel Mongols once the family is killed.

I mean, after all, I only refused to meet them in battle head-on; backstabbed their Heirs and Generals most dishonourably in the dead of the night; and performed a successful "Bonfire Night" on their Leader ... They couldn't *possibly* be angry with me, right? RIGHT?

I received the "Faction Destroyed" notification after killing off the last General/Faction Leader...

I recall one thread mentioning this... but even with "Faction Destroyed" they STILL return?!

Someone go fetch the chihuahuas, saddle the horses, burn the bridges and for goodness' sake, cancel the champagne!

Cheetah, I can't remember my Sultan's stats (will post it next week) but he started off all pious and holy (he went on Jihad etc.) then turned into the most devious, conniving and untrustworthy git after his son came of age. I think his dread is about 7 or 8.

My Assassins range from as high as rank 10 (two of them I think) to as low as 3. Most have about 6 to 8 ranks of skill/experience.
