Thread: No planting stakes on roads?

Default No planting stakes on roads?

Playing as the English recently I noticed that in some battles, the option on longbow units to plant stakes before battle was gone, and replaced by the usual fire flaming arrows button. I couldn't figure it out for a long time, but then I realized it was because the unit was very close to or on a road. Is this a bug or is it intentional? I guess it makes sense that you can't dig up a road to plant stakes, but it's still irritating.

You're right. They can only plant stakes where the soil is suited for it. So no roads, rocks, ...
I read in another post that people use stakes to block the city gate in siege defence. I haven't tried this yet, but it seems you can well put stakes into the streets inside your town.

I think you can only plant stakes if the AI believes there is no road there.

What I mean is, if you play a siege battle, from a zoomed out position you can clearly see a paved road from the city gate. However, if you zoom in, often there is grass covering the road if it goes of at a tangent. If you look carefully at where the road turns, you can see in the plains ahead that while the road turns, there is often a strip of terrain with no "sticiking out" bits of grass. You won't notice this if you play with grass graphics turned off, but I've noticed it quite a few times, it would explain why sometimes my archers can deploy stakes on a road and at other times they cannot.

    Bug???
