Europa barbarorum for Barbarian invasions

I finally got around to installing barbarian invasions to my RTW + EB folder. After a lot of work I eventually got the Europa barbarorum for Barbarian invasions thing working (I couldn't get it to work with the shield wall and schiltron features so I unchecked that box) but there are still a couple of issues.
1. I can't get plain barbarian invasions working, it just goes to desktop after the first loading screen.
2. The load times in EB seem to have gotten significantly longer.

I can live with both these things since I wasn't even planning on playing BI vanilla but if there is a solution I would like to know it.

EB for BI isn't officially supported, but playing EB from the BI exe shouldn't break BI vanilla...
