Hello Everybody. I just had a kid, so I've been out of the loop for about two months. Well, I also moved to a new city and got a new job, so more like 4 months. Popped in here today to find out there was a new version! I'll have to evaluate which particular files have changed in the 1.2 patch then update them. It seems people here have already covered what works and doesn't work. You could install the 1.2 patch is installed over my installer. This will of course remove the new combat abilities of units. Another option is to uninstall my patch, install 1.2, then reinstall my patch with only the "main" option, and the "hide banners/triangles" if you so choose.
It looks like the following work needs to be done:
1) Integrate updated unit stats
2) Remove the 1.1 permanent/optional fixes
3) Add the 1.2 fixes
I'll keep you guys posted on my progress.

Congrats man. What a busy 4 months.
GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY!
I found some time this weekend to completely revamp my installer to make way for version 1.2 of EB as well as the 1.2 fixes that have come out.
Other changes to the installer:
- Fixes can now be installed separately from the main section.
- Night battle character traits are now completely edited in place, which will increase compatability with other mods. It does make the installer slower though as the traits file is huge.
- The realism changes in the preferences file can now be uninstalled.

Just so you know, the download link is broken, I get this message:
Secure Connection Failed
www.freeformatics.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
(Error code: sec_error_ca_cert_invalid)
Goddammit, I pasted the https version. I'll fix it in a jiffy. Normally though you should be able to just hit "okay" to get through the self-signed certificate.

Thanks a lot for updating your fantastic mod, Ferromancer.
Because I'm not sure if I have the permission to give balloons (never understood the system behind - in fact I'm not even sure there is a system) take this handful of virtual cookies instead...

Great work!
Is there a specific reason why videos are disabled?
Have you checked your preferences? I don't turn them off if that's what you're asking.
It could be a bug.

I'm not sure if I should ask for help here or in the Technical Help section of the forum but here goes.
I am trying to use BI to play EB but:
1. When I try to change the settings in Options=> Controls in the Main Menu I get a CTD.
2. More importantly when I try to start a campaign I get a CTD.
Please
Make sure that you picked the correct RTW directory when you installed. The installer assumes a default installation into program files, but that may not be the case. Also if you're running with the standard security features in Windows Vista, and RTW is installed in the programs directory, that can cause problems too.

Thanks Ferromancer, congrats on the kid. You've already got balloons and cookies, so what could I possibly add? Chocolate milk?
One balloon for not being Roman
I tried uninstalling EB for BI then installing the RTW 1.6 Patch then installing EB for BI again. CTD still happens when I try to start a new campaign and when I click on Controls in the options menu.
I am using Windows XP not Vista.
I installed the mod in the Rome Total War folder where I have both BI and EB installed.
Also the version of the mod I downloaded from the thread link was 1.2.1.1
If you're doing everything from scratch, you have to install everything in this order:
RTW
BI
RTW 1.5 patch
BI 1.6 patch
EB 1.1
EB 1.2
My installer (1.2.1.1)
If you already had EB 1.1 installed with my 1.1 installer:
Uninstall my installer
EB 1.2
My Installer (1.2.1.1)

I tried searching for the answer but didn't find anything about this.
I read that there is a bug when using EB for BI which gives family members the "Impostor" trait. Has this been fixed and if not what should I do to avoid this problem?
hallo!
i installed the minimod pack to my EB 1.2 version.
if i install this minimod, will it affect the minipack already installed?
or: should i install this first , and then install the minipack?
or: should i forget the minipack, and just play the plane version with your installer?

Read the first post on this thread, I make a note on compatibility issues. Three files get overwritten. Ask on the minipack thread if those files are being used. If the minipack does not use those three files, then run my installer last. If the minipack does use those files, you'll have to install it last, but you'll either lose 1.2 bug fixes or lose the unit special abilities.

Progress report:
I am porting some of the installer code to C# so that I can create a more sophisticated text parser. So far I have added code to dynamically modify every single text file except the EDU. To be able to parse the EDU, I have to write a complex unit parser.
In English:
When I'm done, my installer will be compatible with *any EB mod* for EB 1.2. It also won't matter if you've already installed the 1.2 fixes either. It will also check if a change in a file has already been done. So basically... install anything you want and run my installer afterwards!

I spent a good part of Sunday trying to get your mod working on my system, but it CTD'd every time. Part of the problem might be that I'm running Vista (although EB 1.2 works fine on top of RTW 1.5), however, I looked at a few of your text files and they didn't seem to have the text changes required for the BI conversion (for example, "noctophili" was present instead of "noctophilia"). Please doublecheck your base files to make sure they are all correct.
One related suggestion would be to allow your installer to dump all the changes into an empty directory (so people like me can open them and dissect them). Unfortunately your installer hung up when I tried this.
Full Disclosure: I was making a few manual changes and doing a bit of tinkering, so it's *possible* I hosed up your install. For example, I installed it on one directory, it CTD'd, I deleted the directory, built a new virgin BI 1.2 to install it upon, and upon running your program, rec'd the message "so you want to uninstall EB for BI?" (or words to that effect). I didn't of course, and it *seemed* to be installing instead of uninstalling, but the message was confusing and perhaps the confusion affected the install.

@Krull: My intent with my forthcoming update is to make it "hose-proof". It will add changes as necessary and skip any changes that have already been made.
As for making comparisons between what my installer changes, the original file is always backed up with the prefix "eb_before_bi_". You can then compare the two files to see what was changed. WinMerge and Beyond Compare are friendly comparison tools.
I could consider making a backup directory if you think that would be more convenient, however this would break compatibility with previous uninstallers.

I've just noticed that I don't have the ability to swim. All other BI features (shield wall, night battles with torches) work fine.
I've checked this with a number of units which have the "can swim" ability in their description, both foot and horse, but none of them actually do when I get to a river.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm not running any other sub-mods, only this installer.
Thanks

"Hose-proof" is good. Of course, people like me will just find a way to bring a bigger hose!
That's good to know - I saw those but wasn't certain they were "universal". Do you include any new files that wouldn't merit replacement, and thus might not be visible using the "find eb_before_bi method"?As for making comparisons between what my installer changes, the original file is always backed up with the prefix "eb_before_bi_". You can then compare the two files to see what was changed. WinMerge and Beyond Compare are friendly comparison tools.
Nothing like that. It appears, however, that the installer is looking for certain folders or files, and if it doesn't find them that freezes (or permanently loops) the installation. If it's not too difficult, adding an option that would just unpack the files into a random directory would be useful for people like me - who are admittedly a VERY small percentage of your user-base.I could consider making a backup directory if you think that would be more convenient, however this would break compatibility with previous uninstallers.

Okay, I've completed the new mod-tolerant installer, and I'm playing a game of Sweboz right now to make sure everything works right.
The installer is a ton faster than 1.2.1.1 and a little smaller to boot!

The good news is that I finally got it to work! The bad news is that your installer is not copying the map.rwm file from EB/Data/sp game edu backup over to EB/Data/world/maps/base/. There's a file called "eb_before_bi_map.rwm" in both locations, but not an actual "map.rwm". As it turns out, that was causing my crashes. I just renamed one of the "eb_before_bi_map.rwm" files, dropped it into the /base folder, and that solved it.
"Numidia Delenda Est!"
That was actually done on purpose. The game is supposed to regenerate a map.rwm or else nasty things can happen, as the rwm file contains compiled mod data. A better solution would have been to delete the map.rwm file and let it retore itself.
