A must read for any Backroomer interested in the war in Afghanistan

I'm halfway through a book right now that I think you folks might like: "Fifteen Days" by Christie Blatchford.

Blatchford is a reporter with the Globe and Mail who was imbedded with the Canadian Battle Group in Afghanistan in the summer of '06.

She has long been one of my favorite members of the print media, and she tells a compelling story. She pretty much stays away from the political side of the picture and sticks to describing the gritty detail of a bunch of soldiers far from home, fighting a war that is all the more deadly because of its ambiguity.

She tells the story of the 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and tells it well. Although the book reads like a novel, in that it is an easy read that will keep you up for a late night or two because you can't put the damned thing down, it also rings true and is not loaded with "poetic license." I am a former Patricia myself, and have personally met two of the men who figure quite prominently in Blatchford's book, so believe me when I say, she is not full of shite.
