Default Cities up for grabs Part III - Return of the Khan

As I suspected (and everyone else hinted) the Mongols are back!

With a vengeance. But no worries! My Corps of Assassins went to work and earned their pay again. And voila! All their Generals are dead but...

Their idiot Faction Leader appeared on a river and he's now stuck on the river bank!

I've eliminated all the other Mongol Generals but can't get to him because of his unique position. All my units and agents get the "Can't perform mission over multiple turns" message every time I roll my cursor over him!

Furthermore, his stack can't move. And since their leader can't move, none of the other stacks will move. So now I have four stacks of Mongols sitting at the corner of me territory, slowly turning the landscape grey and black and continuously sprouting new Generals every turn!

The new Generals are no problem since they make good practice for my Assassins. But the Khan is untouchable and unmovable!

Anyone ever had this glitch before?

-mir-

PS. It's not because access to his stack is blocked by another stack - there is another army just behind his and I can get to that one fine.

Maybe you should attack him to dislodge him from his riverbank picnic ?

It has happened in many peoples games that they just sit there.

That's the thing! I can't!

He's stuck in a way that nothing can reach him... My cursor just changes to a cross (like how armies can't move on to mountains, the sea, rivers, etc).

It's like he's just stuck there! Grrrr!

Sounds like a bug but I can't tell without a screenshot

You could cheat:

1) hit the ~ button to bring up the console
2) click the mouse cursor on an area of land where you would like him to be
3) type into the console "show_cursorstat"
4) some co-ordinates should pop up in the console
5) click on the Khan and type into the console "move_character this xxx, yyy", replacing the x's and y's with the co-ordinates above
6) he will move to that spot
7) SLAY HIM

If "move_character this" doesn't work, replace "this" with his name. if there are two names, separate them with a _ (eg."Orda_Khan")

good luck, let me know how you get on

EDIT: changed "showcursorstrat" to "show_cursorstat"

Cheetah, the Khan is a miserable 27 years old kid!

Waiting for him to die is NOT an option!

PhonicsMonkey, thanks for the tip! I will try it tonight...

Sinan, sorry again for delay, but the saved games and screenshots will have to wait for a while...

And you cannot reach any of the four stacks? Because if you can, you can drag him as a reinforcement into a multi stack fun battle!

I can reach 3 of the 4 stacks. Just not his.

But haven't tried reaching him as part of a nulti-stack battle. Thanks for the suggestion!

Am a bit wary of engaging them. I've got 2 stacks in the vicinity and will probably use my all-cavalry all-HA stack first. This army was camped on the hills trying to bait them into attacking but they haven't moved an inch!

If you have janissary archers then I would use jan.archer/saracen/arty stacks with a few cavs. Also, I would expect to lose the first attempt (vs 4 mongol stack IMO a reasonable assumption) so might not use my best stack(s) at first. You might throw at them a cannon fodder stack at first. Also, it seems to me that if you can pull out just one stack then you might reach the khan with your assasins (though IMO a multi stack battle is lot more fun ).

Also, can you get a fort near him? in my experience if you leave a fort defended by a single unit, often they find it irresistable.

that way you could tempt him into moving, so long as the fort was closest to his stack out of the four mongol stacks...

ROFLOL He has just found a spot you can not get to with you agents and is waiting for his last mob to arrive.

I think you will find it much easier to kill his 4 stacks than you will to kill 8. If I were you I would get busy and take those out before he gets reinforced. It is not a bug it is tactic…Get busy!

Fisherking, this is the second wave of Mongols. The first has been dealt with...

And I can't get to him with my agents OR my armies. I mentioned this in the posts above...

It's all very frustrating.

BTW Sinan, I really like the pictures you have in your signature! Where do you get them?

I especially like the way you use stylised Roman alphabets which resemble Arabic script. Cool!

I can write Arabic but have not found an Arabic font tool to type it on the pc... Hahah.

Thanks !

This sig is made by the Commodore.
It's in the Ottoman Empire faction thread, at the twcenter.net Empire: Total War Historical Resarch Center. I just resized it to fit the org rules <10kb 500*150. Once you get full member status you can use a sig. Feel free to use it if you want. There are quite a few other interesting pics and info in that forum. Feel free to use any of these, (freeware) or any that I make once you have the member status.

Here's another for E:TW, made by killerxguy (does'nt fir org rules, needs resize):

A good site for fonts is www.dafont.com The style font used in that sig is from this site, it's called Kara Ben Nemsi.

I've done a few sigs, there's about a hundred here. Beware though not all are within org size limits. There is also a sig service at twc, some very talented people there take your order and make you a sig. There is also a "Art" forum at twc which is dedicated to screenshots and sigs. You can see many people's galleries there, and there is truly some amazing work. In this thread I've posted a couple of galleries ( Gallery 1, Gallery 2, Gallery 3) I don't really have a great GFX rig at the moment, but am willing to make a sig or two if provided an image. (all blue text are links btw. doh!)

There is one more regular Mongol group with another 4 stacks coming. If you can not attack any of the stacks then put a suicide stack there to bring them out and then go after them before that last group comes.

When they are gone you only have to look forward to their big brothers with the elephants….they will have a total of 10 armies though they will not all be full stacks. They will come with the black death…which ever is worse…let me know.

First battle as Turks vs Mongols I had, was pure, SHOCK & AWE!. It was southwest of Baghdad, open desert, cavalry everywhere, arrows everywhere. This game can be really beautiful.

EDIT: Just noticed, some truly awesome sigs for E:TW can be found here. They're not only in the first post but also scattered throughout the thread.

*glug glug glug glug* *hic* (Thud! Crash! Sounds of bottles breaking, table turned over and a body hitting the floor!)

Am gonna lock myself up in a small room in the cellar three stories underground and wait for the hordes to pass by. Hopefully they won't notice my little hole in the ground...

Alternatively, we could also meet them in open battle.

Oh well, saddle the chihuahuas again, my brave soldiers! Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more! Gule gule and all that sort of thing...

That's the problem when posting your campaign in a forum - you get to know everything in advance. When I played the Turks (my second campaign in total), I didn't know the Mongols were coming for me at all. I thought they'd go for Russia in any case. I was totally unprepared and had no idea more was coming.
But that was the most fun I ever had in MTW2...

Sure, this one Müşir means Marshal, Kaptan i derya means Admiral of the Fleet, and now I already forgot the one I used before.... Kapudan of the Army, I have'nt a clue what that means, probably like Marshal of the Army. It;s a title used in the Darth Mod.

And I agree it's much more fun if you don't know what's happening in the game. Made my first battle ever with the Mongols really awesome, I was'nt prepared at all.
