    Default Help with Baktria

Ok, this isn't about the shield this time, this is serious.
How do you people survive as Baktria?
I'm fighting a war on three fronts, Saka Riders coming from the northern mountains, Parthian Heavy Cav to the west and Seleukid Phalanxes from the south.
Now, Saka don't pose a threat yet, my Dahae Riders and Subeshi Archers beat them easily and the Seleukid Phalanxes are pathetic, they will never threaten my kingdom but unfortunately it's those damn Parthians that hurt the most, arrows won't touch them, they crush Spearmen and disrupt Phalanxes, how do you beat them? They are invincible.

Baktra or what ever the capitol is called is your most important city. Protect it at all cost.

To beat Pahlahva you have to attack them so you get to shoot your arrows and bail.

Build a mine in Kophen so you get steady income and just keep sending stacks after stacks to beat of the Pahlava.

Or just maintain aliance with them and hope the AS kills the Pahlavans

Yeah, in my experience the trick with Baktria is getting your economy up and running. If you can hold your three provinces for the first 10 years without much expense, you are golden. No one can compete with the Baktrian economy in the east.

I have another question, I though you needed a reform to get Hellenikoi Kataphraktoi but I can already recruit them or is the reform to get Hetairoi Kataphraktoi?

well, the reform happens when the vanilla reforms happnes (when the city of Roma hits a certain population or s/t.... i have no idea)

but w/ the 1st post, heres what i did-
i attacked the persians (i know, wrong name, but easier to write) very early- i just recruited a few mercs and attacked- theyre mostly lightly defended towns at first anyhow.
as to deal with HA- sligers, and persian archer spearmen, with some archers in the back. heavy cavalry is great too, but use LC to ride down their non-mounted archers......
w/ the AS...... just see my AAR..... one of the posts (i forget who wrote it- not me) told how you can beat them.
anyhow, its 260-something and im doing just fine, beating the persians, and at peace w/ Saka...... and the AS..... but not for long. >:-)

Edit- keravanos told me what to do- here it is- https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showp...2&postcount=14

The vanilla Marians happen when a city in Italy that isn't Rome becomes huge.

The Hetairoi Kataphraktoi are the Late Bodyguard for Baktria, so you'll have access to them after the vanilla Marians, but only as a bodyguard unit.

So if the vanilla Reforms occur when a city in italy that's not Rome turns huge, what if I give that city the population to become huge, could I then get Hetairoi Kataphraktoi?

Well, after AS backstabed me, I went from "Cold War" to "Hot War": instead of sending spies (2-3 per settlement) into AS towns, and waiting for revolt, I slowly conquer them now.

Pahlava broke the Alliance and I allied AFAP with the Sauromatae ... and let 'em three steppe factions fight each other. Both the Saka and the Sauromatae keep the Pahlavs busy, so Baktria's kinda laughing fourth.

N.B. I usually send a diplomat to the Saka ASAP to obtain a trade agreement.

And, yes, mines are Baktria's main income generators.
Towards the end of the book, the Moties quote an old story from Herodotus:

"Once there was a thief who was to be executed. As he was taken away he made a bargain with the king: In one year he would teach the king's favorite horse to sing hymns."
"The other prisoners watched the thief singing to the horse and laughed. 'You will not succeed,' they told him. 'No one can.' To which the thief replied, 'I have a year, and who knows what will happen in that time. The king might die. The horse might die. I might die. And perhaps the horse will learn to sing.'"

And you don't get a message notifying you of this
Does it also work if the city isn't held by Rome?

    Mines, bridges battles and sieges.
And when you're set in a good defensive position and wish to turtle up, send assassins to take care of enemy generals (Saka and Sauromatae come to mind.)
