I don't consider that real rap at all. The hip hop that I listen to never talks about money, cars, or hoes. They rap about everyday life things, each persons life story. Some of it is nice and soulful like "Common Sense" rapping about his sweetheart. One of my favorite songs is by Talib Kweli who raps about his children being superstars in his eyes.

This is real old school classic. Common rapping about how he misses real hip hop, how now its all about gangs and shit. Listen to the whole song, you'd think he is talking about some girl but at the end is the twist.

Seriously I get embarrassed saying I like Hip Hop because people right away think of that stuff on the radio that is horrible and unoriginal. It's crazy how pop and rock and even rnb now have better and more clever lyrics and word play that rap.

Although it is fun listening to "MOVE B!TCH GET OUT THE WAY" while charging cavalry into a flank

I prefered that to all the other hip hop I hear nowadays (although I do go out of my way to ensure I don't hear any). He did sound like he was rapping with a blocked nose.

I don't understand why R'n'B has started to be synonomous with Hip Hop now! When people say R'n'B to me, I think of the Small Faces, The Animals, The Who, The Rolling Stones or The Yardbirds! (Come on, I'm sure I can think of one American band that is R'n'B!?) That's what Rhythm and Blues is!

I forgot which rapper said this...but he has said "Why do artists call their music RnB when they aren't doing RnB?"

I just listen to the EB music which i really like but as was mentioned by a few here, the SPQR battle music is pretty damn good too. It's never occured to me to try it with EB.....I just might have to give that a try.....

I'm quite content with just EB, I'm concentrating enough so that I don't really have the spare brain cells for much else. I prefer to listen to music completely on it's own, which in some ways is a waste, because I have my own detached study, and a 7.1 setup(Coast to Coast by the Scorpians sounds just dandy through it).

Yes the SPQR mods music was good, been awhile though, what is it now, still part of the score from Ben Hur and Conan the Barbarian?

And some from Spartacus and Cleopatra as well, and one song called "Lacrimosa" that was used in a Spiderman trailer or something that fits perfectly for true epic battles.

    Wouldn't be a new idea.

Here... Scroll down or search the page for "Lachrymosa" (No. 4). Too bad IUMA went down with all the great music of his and others in MP3.

Fred was a great man and musician, no more composing for us since the big C knocked him down in late 2004.

I agree. That is on the part about my choice being good. I'm not of "their generation", so to say - so I can't really say much about whether they're underrated or not. But in any case, they're good, and that's good enough for me. ;) (And a positive thing with this is that my dad's a fan of them, and he had a "Best of CCR-CD", so I didn't have to go through the pain of aquiring it myself.)

I completely agree with this too. Horst might jump at the idea that someone might like CCR AND rap, but I do.

I'm not of "their generation" either, believe it or not I'm only 24. I can believe that some people like CCR and rap, just as I can believe that some people like cabbage and marmalade sandwiches.

To be honest though, one of the best gigs I ever went to was Ice T when he was touring with Body Count! I really got caught up with the atmosphere.

Then I take the cake from the caketable of age. Only 19 and still able to sing "Fortunate Son" in my sleep. Or, at least I would, if the bloody song was in Swedish. And I could sleepsing - or sing at all, for that matter. Meh. At least I've got the lyrics memorized.

I think I will experiment a little more with music-unthought-of next time I get around to play. Which should be tomorrow. Ain't no way to win the jackpot without placing a wager, you know.

While playing EB, I listen to what I usually listen to, my collection of heavy metal/punk whatever you call it : Metallica, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, AC/DC ....

I recommend Susumu Yokota. Especially album "The boy and the tree". Very atmospheric timeless but still contemporary music with tasty eastern feeling. Ideal for playing eastern factions :)

Thanks, Brasidas. I will give it a go.

In the same way, I can recommend the music of Omar Faruk for playing with Kart-Hadast.

I listen to folk music gathered from the appropriate regions whenever I can find them.(And afford them) I highly recommend Yair Dalal's "One" album for Qarthadast and Saba, lots of atmospheric Semitic campaign tunes and plenty of tension and mobilization pieces for the battle map.
For the "Eastern" factions like Pahlavi and Pontos The Kamkars work pretty well. Those Persian drums are stellar in the battle map.

Yes, this music thread is getting better and better.

This may sound obvious, but if you're looking for some genuine greek music, Halaris Christodoulos is the name.

Tracks from the german martial industrial band Triarii fit very well. Heldentod or Victoria in example.

Few pieces can be found here -> http://www.myspace.com/triariiheadquarters
