CTD whilst loading

I've playing a KH campaign on EB 1.0 for a couple of weeks now without any real problems apart from the odd CTD when going from battle screen back to the campaign map and these were very rare. But when I came to load EB yesterday it consistently CTD's after the intro movie goes off and the loading screen for EB starts, thus not even getting to the main menu. I've tried a complete reinstall of vanilla RTW and EB but the same happens!? I have also run the validation check and no problems are found. I was having an great campaign as well!
