Thread: Changing title of Military industrial complex

Default Changing title of Military industrial complex

This might sound presumptuous of me since I am a relative newcomer to this forum, but I must suggest that we change the name of "military industrial complex" to something else. The title MIC carries several connotations that are not entirely appropriate for the context we use them in. It is most commonly used in reference to the military industry of the united states, in fact I have never even heard it in reference to any pre-modern civilization at all. Has anyone made this complaint before? and if they have was there a reason it was rejected?

Not seen this before, but I think its fine.

The reason it is called this is because a mic is just what it is: It represnts not only a brracks but also training fields, armouries, stables, smithies, brothels , and all the other things that soldiers need to function.

They aren't actually called MICs anywhere in game. It was a joke nickname for the building interally and at some point it was said in the public forums. The nickname caught on and it is generally what is used around the forum(probably because MIC has three letters and barracks has eight).

Yup, the actual MICs in the game all have weird regional/factional names such as "pieros elite training facility, Amazonian yutseb-oliphaunt breeding facility, etc

I believe MIC is used in the real world too. Or was it one of my EB dreams?

Eh, maybe in the US, but there are other places in the world. I know in my corner of Europe the term is applicable to the military and it's supporting elements in any society. Of course, the US MIC just tends to dominate things because it is bigger than something like the ten biggest competitors combined.

The MIC building was included as a workaround because of the limits of the RTW engine.

Historically most soldiers, especially the smaller mediterranean soldiers, felt very weak and uncomfortable when they met Gaesatae in the field (especially in winter as Gaesatae were resistant to cold weather). Historians in cooperation with Psychologists from the Cookie State University identified this as MIC or Male Inferiority Complex. The reaction of towns like Roma to this symptom was to train their soldiers harder to compensate for their shortcomings.

The MIC in EB reflects this training. in version 1.2 it will be connected with a reform event. After your first defeat against Gaesatae your general will get the "has seen it all"-trait which triggers the MIC reform.

MIC is not used in the game. It is a term used in the forum and is a holdover from internal development/beta when the concept of what we were doing was a bit alien to RTW mods.

So, there is no title to change. I am on a subversive quest to eradicate its use both here and backstage.

    Don't tell anybody.

Well now that I think about it I guess it isn't used in the game. I suppose that since we use it here so much and it is on the recruitment viewer (in abbreviation form at least) I just assumed I had also seen it in the game as well. Oops, my mistake. Sorry everyone.

Lol, Cinna! Finally the truth came out!

It is well-known that he term "military-industrial complex" bacame a catch-prase after it was used by former US president Eisenhower in his farewell address http://www.eisenhower.archives.gov/s...l_address.html Less known is the fact, that President Eisenhower was actually also refering to the abovementioned Male Inferiority Complex but some typos in his background materials and his mild form of dislexia brought about this total distortion of the original meaning

Actually, when talking about the Romans we often refer to their M.I.C. because, rather like the US, it was a driving force behind their economy.

I actually like the term MIC for EB. Although the exact term varies accros factions, the term MIC gives a nice general outline to how recruitment works in EB.

don't mean to come off as a stuck up but... in the US Consumer Consumption makes up about 60+% of the GPD, Goverment Spending (military, social, etc) makes up about 20some%. Investment makes up the rest, and Net Export is in the negatives. Eisenhower (sp) spoke of the dangers of the MIC because the military, contractors, and related gov't officials and agencies tend to form an "iron triangle", which IF unchecked, can be detrimental to US democracy.
