Greetings, first time poster to this site but I’ve been playing STW for awhile now and MTW when it first came to the store. I’ve been playing as the Turks and I’ve built up a pretty large army and navy. I’ve conquered 60% of the world that stretches from Ireland to Syria and Khazar. I’ve conquered the Papal States and Rome because the pope keeps declaring a crusade on my empire specifically on Constantinople, which I built a fortress there. I usually have 3 to 4 full flag armies stationed in the Rome province, there’s a couple more stationed in nearby provinces and I usually have a 3 to 4 spies in place there to act as secret police. I also exclusively raise some spies in that province as well. I’ve also converted the citizens in Rome and the Papal States into islam, 91% and 73% respectively. Yet the pope in exile pops up 5 or more times already, first 3 every other year or so, the last two took awhile for him to pop up. I have confidence that my Generals can defeat him since they have a high dread rating, high valor, and are 4 and 5 star experienced generals. I know this question has been asked before but how do I keep him from ever returning? Is this just a feature of the game or is there a way to permanently exile him and his successors? Will having more spies in my province and converting the population to 100% islam work? Thanks for any response.

Like the Revolution of the Netherlands in EU2, you CAN NOT prevent the re-appearing of the pope, since he is too important to the catholic factions (no crusades without him, no forced peace, etc)

But why not let him live in peace in a province of your choice, surrounded by your troops, and THEN you can convert this province to Islam, forcing him to keep a large garrison force. Since the single province only pays fo this garrison, you are safe from him.

If you keep trying to subvert him, he keeps coming back stronger every time (just like EU2).

You could conquer Rome and leave the Pope with the Papal states only. Rome is usually developed while the Papal states are underdeveloped and have poor farmland. Usually the Papal states are still on fort level with few buildings while Rome already has a castle or citadel.
