    Eureka!
A Hearts of Iron 2 After Action Report for Australia

    Australia

    The Prolouge - Author's Say

THis AAR is based upon Australia, and their struggle to war thrown upon them by Great Britain. I thought this would be interesting seeing as Australia was emerging from the Great Depression, and had a awful economy at the time (Not nowadays though) I hope you like it, and please leave comments! I hate it when there is no comments!

    Scenario: Grand Campaign
    Country: Australia
    Difficulty: Normal
    AI Aggressiveness: Normal

    January 1940

War was declared back in 1939 by Nazi Germany and Nazi Slovakia. Meanwhile the USSR annexed the small nations of Estonia, Lativia and Lithuania. Poland acts as a buffer between the two until Germany annexed them in Late 1939. From then on nothing happened, there were minor skirmishes in the North Sea and Aegean but no offensives.

Australia was on the other side of the world, surrounded by friendly territroy. To the north was Dutch Indonesia while New Zealand was to the East. Menzies was voted into the position of Prime Minister, and he dragged the economy upwards, taking Australia from a ppor country hit by the Great Depression, to one commanding a powerful position in Asia.

China was divided to the north, the Nationilists had annexed two of their opponets, and only the Communists stood up to them. Japan though, had Manchuria.

    And now, it is 1940.

Late 1939, Hungary, Italy and Romania joined the Axis Allaince. Meanwhile Norway, Denmark, Blegium and Holland joined the Allies. Germany rushed through Denmark and took half of Norway within 3 months, meanwhile the USSR was having a hard time taking Finland.

Britain was ind ire straits in Africa, with Italy rushing through their Colonies. The 1st Motorized Infantry Division was deployed in Perth this year, and were picked up by Royal Australian Navy Transport Fleet 1. They then proceeded to go north past Saudi Arabia and through the Suez Canal. The RAN dropped of the Australian Corp at ALexandria where they moved onwards to El Alamein.

We won several battles at Tobruk and deserts to the south, but Italy won them back, then we won them back. The war is fiearce. Near Australia, we spent some money trying to influence New Zealand to our views.

Slowly Africa Libiya was conquered, and the BEF, Belgian Expeditionary Force, landed at French Tunisia and squashed the italians against the oncoming Allied Army. Meanwhile a South African Corps and British Corps fought back some Italian Attempts to conquer Malta.

Most of European France was then conquered by Germany, the whole Northern part. The Germans established Vichy France, whichs oon after declared its independance. It is so far neutral. Old France stills control parts of Africa and America and controls Marseilles in Europe, we have One Ship docked there, and HMAS Australia is heading there from Canberra.

The Italians relieve control of North Africa to the Allies. The Motorized Australian Infantry Corps attempted a Invasion of Sardina, and were totatlly annhilated. Several prisoners were taken by the Italians. The RAN Fleet retreated to Alxandria followed closely by german U - Boats.

When this happened the 2nd Australian Corps arrived in Cairo, followed closely by the 1st New Zealand Corp. The ANZACs have now movedto Tobruk to decide what to do now.

In Australia the Fascist party was offically outlawed, but the Communists were still allowed. Similar things happened in New Zealand.

Menzies has plans to take Sardina for Australia, and keep it Australian, so we may have a good Naval base, Supply Base and Deploying Zone. It currently has 1 Italian Corps in it which has beaten the I Australian Corps. Menzies also plans to influence New Zealand more and a Non Aggresion Pact has been signed, and both gurrantee each others independance.

    More to come.

    Comments please! What was wrong/good?

OOO I love HoI2. That being said I recommend the CORE mod to anyone playing. Vanilla is good, but CORE is great.

As for the AAR, excellent read and keep it up! I once tried turning Australia into a fascists state but it didnt work out so well

Yes, this is a surprise to see it has been awhile since I seen the game, almost want to fire it up the icon is sitting there on my desk top. I would also recommend CORE to vanilla for a better game experience. Nice start.

Maybe, though I don't think Japan's too much of a threat yet. Unless you mean the Kiwi's... Though there are a few Pacific Suprises in the next few chapters.

Interesting read, I don't think I've seen a Australian AAR before. I'll make sure to keep up with this. Fellow HoI player here HoI2 is a good multiplayer game, if you could get enough people to fill up the major powers or at least some of them.

    Chapter I

In Europe, the 6th Australian Motorized Division attempted a Second Invasion of Sardinia, and were beaten backwards while losing several troops, and then the RAN Transport ships were totally destroyed by the italian navy. We have lost One Flotilla and One DIvision.

Immediately afterwards this tragic incident, the training of a 7th Australian Infantry Division went underways, this time not Motorized. A sacrifice of speed for stergnth.

The map of Africa has changed greatly, with the Italian Provinces to the south all annexed by British and New Zealand forces, while South African planes gain the air around Malta. THis can not be said about the seas.

Around Australia not much has changed. Holland has been beaten in Europe, so their Capital nows exsists in Java, Indonesia, where they closely trade with us. British Ships have been seen patrolling the waters north of us.

Finland remaisn strong against the USSR, who hates us. Nationallist China annexed another of its politicial enemies. The USA secrety sends supplies to the UK to sustain their war effort. And then the news broke. Nazi Germany had declared war upon the Soviet Union.

THis though didn't mean the USSR joined the Allies, they formed their own Alliance, the Comintern, with the members of Russia, Mongolia and its close neighbours.

While this was happening the 7th Division was deployed in Perth, and a Transport Flotilla was reassigned to perth, from thence it would transport any new Divisions between Australia and Africa, and task which takes several months.

Wit the prospects of reinforcements coming from Australia, the RAN became quite braver. They sent several ships to scout the Sicillian Coastline for any potencial Invasion Spots. When this was happening, the RAN forces were engaged by the Italian Navy, but did have British reinforcement in the form of the 3rd Transport Flotilla. The Battle was long, but we won. The RAN Fleet was the only survivors with the British and Italian forces sinking. The event has been recorded and the PM notified.

As we retreated we were engaged by Italian SHips seeking revenge, the victorious RAN Fleet was tragiclly sunk, Menzies swears revenge will be swift and painful, in a speech over the ABC Radio.

Coincidentlly, when this happened the 6th arrived in North Africa, and over some confusion regarding orders, waited in the nearest city. the 7th Australian Infantry Division is being recruited in Australia as of now.

The Australian ecnonmy is rising quickly to the suprise of many, with over 40% of Australian Companies reporting higher profits then expected, to the delight of Menzies.

The 7th was deployed in Perth, then was whisked away to North Africa, shortly it arrived, with record times set. The Australian Corp was assigned the target of Sardina, but news came in that the UK froces had just captured it. Grief greeted this news.

A RAN Fleet made up of the HMAS Australia, HMAS Hobart 2nd Destroyer Flotilla has been reassigned to Alexandria, where they will protect the fragile part of transporting troops. As this was announced, Menzies made a happy announcement over the ABC.

Today we write a new page in the glorious history of Australia, stepping forward from times best forgotten. I recently gave orders to the Chief of Navy to start construction of a massive Grand Battleship, the biggest ever built in Australia’s history, and the biggest of several fleets. Though it will undergo consruction in Alexandria, it will go forth in our effort for helping the United Kingdom, and our Allies. Thankyou.
This news was welcomed by parades and parties. It is promised to be the first of a World Class Australian Fleet, enough to rival those of Britain. Though it cost many resources, it has hardly dented the economy.

A Scout Plane looked over the coastlines of Italy, and two invasion spots were chosen. One was Anzio, south of Rome. It would caue panic in italy, but it would be under attack instantly. Menzies and the Army Chief, Cyril White, ruled it out of the question. The next option was Genoa, lightly defended, Vichy France behind and the Swiss to the north.

The RAN Fleet based in Sardina was sent out and psent one whole month bombarding the place, followed closely by a bombardment from the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) Then the 7th assaulted the place.

It was a disaster. The 6th was wiped out. The 7th was left at Sardina alone. The RAN and RAAF retreated instantly in the face of a tragedy.

Good news came though, the Philipinnes joined the war on our side. Shortly afterwards the USA declared itself for the Allies and sent several fleets to the European Thetre and around Australia. They have given us several blueprints of technologies.

Menzies, and Australia as a whole, and the world, was then shocked by terrible news. Germany had shredded through USSR, Moscow and Stalingard had fallen and the Soviets were holding a Defensive Line at the Ural Mountains, then they would retreat to Siberia. This can change much.

The RAN Fleet in Sardina then found a good target, in the Balkans was the Italian Province of Trieste. It was isolated from Italy and surrounded by Neutrals, there supply lines ran over the Adriatic Sea. The RAN and RAAF then proceeded, and are still going, to bomb and convoys moving through the waters. It should take at least two years, but the place will starve.

And then Australia celebrated, the new world shocking Ship was just finished in Sydeney. It was named the HMAS Brisbane, and was instantly classed as Navy leader and Fleet leader. It is now heading to Europe where it shall rule the waves, the UK and US is both asking for help from us now.

As this happened, to go with it, the 1st Royal Marines Division was formed and shall be deployed in Perth, and then assigned the tricky mission of taking Trieste. They are experienced and highly trained, and even White has seen them. (White being Chief of the Army)

Now we wait for what will happen in Russia, and perhaps Greece.
