When does the bodyguard turn from early to late type?

It is much easier. The issue is that whereas before a lot of people thought the bodyguard was too weak (I was not one of them) now people think the bodyguard is too strong. I remember in another thread someone from the EB team saying that the Pontic bodyguard has been reduced for the next version.

As for your other questions, I don't know. I'm at 218 BC in my Pontic campaign right now, and I still have the Persian bodyguards.

Goolasso, be carefull about those Thureophorontes Toxotai, Pontus needs a level 3 factional MIC for them but for that, you need a type 2 government, because Pontic and Armenian Type 3 and 4 governments only allow for the first level of factional MICs. Pretty unhistorically that you have to put up a persian satrapy in the Crimea, instead of a much more likely prohellenic satrapy. Perhaps this will be changed in 1.1.
