I'm noticing from PM's that people are starting the diplomacy early. While I applaud your enthusiasm, I would prefer to hold off on diplomacy until the factions are set in stone.

1.) As we saw in the Teutonic game, faction switching can potentially throw off previous diplomatic efforts.

2.) Starting the diplomacy now seems unfair to the people who haven't been confirmed yet. I'd hate for Ramses or Iggy to be left to fend for themselves simply because we set up our deals before they were even officially in the game.

As for Norway, I agree they should be player controlled. In a smaller game like Crusades/Brittania, it's important for all of the factions to be player controlled.

As for rules, a couple that seem to be standard with PBM's yet not enunciated in here yet are:

1.) Diplomacy has to be agreed to in PM's before its activated in the game.

2.) no reloading the save unless your computer crashes.

3.) tell people via PM if you do something they would be aware of in a SP game. Like defeat their army or take a city.

Of course if Zim says something different, that is what goes.

    *edit*

I just saw Zim's post about starting with Norway AI controlled. Could we wait just one or two more days for another player? Leaving Norway AI controlled will basically kill Norway. The new player would start out way behind on the diplomacy and infrastructure building.

Sorry for the double post but I just PM'd Cheetah. He has expressed interest in being in a PBM because of our talks in the Turtle thread in the Citadel.

Alright, now I'll just wait for Zim to declare that the factions are "set in stone" and we can start our scheming! :D

Most of the post I had written is now useless, since we have someone to play Norway!

As for those rules, the second two are fine, but 1. should be more of a suggestion. If someone wants to send a diplomat with a proposal to a person they haven't talked to in pm, that's fine. The other player still has to accept on their turn, and nobody is being taken advantage of or anything.

What difficulty should I set this on? I'm thinking there's no reason to set it very high, since there should be no AI players and abttles are autoresolved (indeed, setting battle difficulty too high may disadvantage the attacking player, assuming the game takes the defender as an AI army). Maybe H/H, or even M/M?

Oh, and the factions are now set. Gentlemen, start your scheming!

M/M or H/H should be good. Since we're just playing against each other, it shouldn't matter much.

Now, when are you putting up the first save? Do we get a little time to scheme and plot?

BTW, I'm quite please with how fast this filled up. This thread hasn't even been up for four hours!

I was surprised how quickly it filled, too, especially with players mostly new to the Crusades Hoteseat games.

    A couple of things:

-I will need everyone's passwords via pm. This is in case I have to get a substitute to play a turn.

-I have rearranged the factions in the first post in the order in which they get their turns. Conveniently, England goes first!

I can wait a while to start, although I suspect the first turn will be quieter than later turns.

A.) We should figure out exactly what order the turns go in. Any of us could start a mock MP game and just skip through the first turns to see what order they pop up.

B.) We should explain the naming convention for the saves. I like the system EF used and think it would serve us well. A table on the first post would help make this clear when we have the order figured out. *nudge nudge* :D

The little numbers signify their order.

    Naming convention:
    Britannia-1-1

Britannia for the campaign name, first 1 for the turn number, and the second number signifies which player is up.

e.g. England goes first, when I finish my turn I will save and upload as Britannia-1-2. Britannia, first turn, second player.

With Roadkill offline right now, I figure I shouldn't start the game for a little while, so he can negotiate with people. Tomorrow sound good for starting?
