How do I get the swordsman event? I'm playing as Shimazu and they get better No-Dachi but I can't get them 'til the event.

Just fight a battle or two - one of your warriors will achieve this breakthrough and then off you go!![]()

Yup, you usually get it after the first good battle. And then start pumping out those No-Dachi's!
The purpose of a fish trap is to catch fish, and when the fish are caught, the trap is forgotten. The purpose of a rabbit snare is to catch rabbits. When the rabbits are caught, the snare is forgotten. The purpose of words is to convey ideas. When the ideas are grasped, the words are forgotten. Where can I find a man who has forgotten words? Must be my playing style, I usually took lots longer. I guess that's because I use almost only archers in the beginning phase..I never knew that it was specifically a yari unit that had to achieve something, so thanks! I keep learning about this game.

It might not only be Yari. My memory is a little hazy but archer kills get only half the honour gain. Which means by the time you would have an honour 2 archer you would have an honour 3 yari. Half the time, would mean twice as many significant battles.
Try and see if getting your Hatamoto into battle increaes the speed of swordsmen event.
Hey Drisos! Good to see you again.![]()
To be honest, Papewaio is probably correct (in that it doesn't need to be a Yari unit that reaches the honour threshold for the Swordsman event). I've long been under the impression that it has to be a YS/YA unit, but there's no real reason to assume that that's so. It's just far more likely for Yari units to get the honour increase than Archers is all, as they're obviously inolved in melee a lot more often.Originally Posted by Drisos

So I'm supposed to get this swordsman event in 2-3 battles? I've fought at least 15 in my campaign.

The guy who gets the honour as to survive.
Only has to be one guy.
From deepest darkest memory much like going up in generals rank you need ~n^2 kills per honour rank. And that you need an honour 3 guy.
Honour / kills hth / ranged fire
0 = 0 kills / 0 kills
1 = 1 kills / 2 kills
2 = 4 kills / 8 kills
3 = 8 kills / 16 kills
Now to make things complicated I think the honour of the defeated opponent is used too in the same value. So a honour 2 opponent is equivalent to killing 4 0 rank opponents.
So I think you have to have a surviving warrior with 8 kills (or 16 in archery). Or a single kill of a rank 3 opponent.
This needs to be tested since it is years since I have played STW:
Now things that will speed it up is fighting higher honour opponents. You could start with higher honour too. And that has a double effect... your honour 1 warriors need to get 7 kills, also if they are killed the enemy will now have higher honour and will be worth more.
So an honour 1 warrior should only need to kill 1 honour 0 enemy and 3 honour 1 warriors to get the swordsmen event.
This is about as hazy as a fog enshrouded map and tenous as grip of holding on as when that fog is filled with monks surrounding your Ashi gunners mind you... so take it with a pound of salt.

Go kill a general and have the killer survive.Originally Posted by Xehh II
Thanks, that was much easier to understand.

How strange. Do you have your faster-moving soldiers run down the enemy when they break? Good for racking up the kills and gaining honour.Originally Posted by Xehh II
I've never had to fight more than a handful of battles before getting the legendary swordsman event.

Thanks but after I eliminated Takeda I was displaced to my Kyushu provinces by the Oda/Hojo alliance, Hojo took over Takeda provinces when I defeated them.Originally Posted by Martok
I started a vicious war against Shimazu to stop them defeating the Mori, my allies.
So at the point in my game, I control Kyushu and half of Shikoku, the Shimazu still stubbornly hold the other half while my Mori allies are battling the Oda for Kyoto.
I don't know what the Hojo and Uesugi are doing but I know that Oda and Hojo broke their alliance and started fighting each other soon after conquering my main provinces.
