    Default Iberians in Asia

Im posting this question in the Eb forum because I found the link which raised my question from the thread "Antiochos the Great". One of the replies was to a link, to Appian's Roman History, which talked of the Syrian Wars and also of the Mithridatic wars (sp?). On page 21 in the Mithridatic Wars section was a mention of Iberians in Asia. There is little talk of these Iberians except to say there is speculation as to whether the European Iberians migrated to Asia, vice versa, or that it is just a coincidence.
Does anyone have anymore information regarding these Iberians in Asia and if their connection to the European Iberians exists?

I dont remember who posted the link in the other thread but thank you very much this is a fascinating read

The name must have confused you, and indeed it is not hard to see why: two different peoples who are given the same name. The Iberians this link of yours is about are a people living to the north of the Hai. If you conquer the settlement of Mtskheta as an Hellenistic faction (and possibly certain other factions as well) your conquering general (need to have a general in the conquering stack) will receive the periergsis iberias trait. That comes with a description of those 'Iberians'.

And no, to my knowledge they have absolutely nothing to do with the Iberians from the Iberian penninsula.

Indeed, I've never seen any speculation that they are related to the people of the Iberian peninsula.

You may also notice that there is another Albania over there, too.

Basque nationalists/sympathizers have tried to link the two Iberias but AFAIK no serious scientific links between the languages or anything else have been concluded.

Maybe the name "Iberians" comes from ib-ri (sumerian word), which is the "ancestor" of "Hebraeans" (looks strange to me. Is this really the correct word in english language? )

Would explain how two different peoples get the same name. Sumerian culture was spread all around the world, to India, to the south of Afrika and of course to the Phoenicians, who traded with Iberian Peninsula and even Cornwall (they called it "the Tin Isles", iirc) also.
