yeah to use it you just weigh up how good each individual units attack values are so you know what to charge into the enemy with, find the biggest defence valua and use that if you need to defend a key choke point (castle gate bridge etc) morale for knowing the uber unit aint gonna break and run on impact , armour so you know which to use to bait the archers fire so they run out of ammo ,

theres a lot of useful infomation on that screen and when you know how to interpret it it can be a battle winner

it's a pity there isn't soemthing that shows similar info on the enemy units, or a running version of the end of battle summary so you can see which unit's a kicking arse and which ones are losing their matchups.

The most useful thing I've found about F1 is the morale readout. Knowing the morale status of your units can be battle breaking.

I realize it's not really what you're wishing for, but you may be interested in knowing (if you don't already) that if you save a battle and then replay it later on, you'll be able to view the enemy's units from their commander's perspective. In other words, you'll be able to view each enemy unit's morale and current tactical situation just like you would your own.

It's nowhere near as detailed as the F1 screen, but you can gague the valour of an enemy unit by looking closely at it and counting how many flags the unit is carrying. A 0 valor unit only carries it's main standard. For each point of valor, a little pennant of the faction's color is added to a member of the group. So if you saw a unit of enemy feudal sergeants and they had their banner with 3 little pennants, then you know the unit you're facing is valor 3. That, combined with the type of unit it is gives you some idea about them. What would be cool is if there was a function like in Sid Meyer's Gettysburg... the faster the flag & pennnants were bouncing up and down, the lower the unit's morale was (how close it was to getting ready to break and run).
