Default Unit Graphics modifications for MTW-VI-XL

Let me show you some of the artwork I've done for my own copy of MTW-VI-XL mod:
These extensive modifications are a culmination of endless nights of research and software testing, and most of all, hours and hours of photoshop-readbif open, extract, draw, copy, paste, modify, save, import, saving again. and so on..

well you all know what I'm talking about, now let's see some real stuff..
    hope you like it...

Bedouin Camel Warriors with new spears and shields.

Our well known Faris: mounted state

New dismounted Faris, available to be trained too.

Early Ghulam Bodyguards with faction recolourable shields and black spears.

    High Ghulams, same updates.

Ghulam cavalry, wooden shields, showing their lesser condition.

Arbalesters, now with arbalettes/arbalest, bigger than crossbows.

    a comparison.

    New pavises.

Different pavises for arbalesters and crossbowmen.

New shields and swords for the Viking Karls

    The same for Landsmenn

    Added Berserkers

Vikings with Viking shields and new axes

    Viking Raider Cav.

Even the humble urban militiamen fights better now that they have fearsome looking bardiches. (stats unchanged)

    Militia sergeants's new poleaxes.

    Mtd sergeants, almost unchanged.

Early Royal Knights, with real Knight lances and faction coloured shields.

Murabitin horsemen now played by burncav texture and new spears.

    Saharan Cavalry wielding Scimitars.

    Billmen's new billhacks.

Swiss pikemen and their fearsome Pikes.

    Charging and defeating Knights.

Plain Spearmen are not that plain now!

    Feudal Sergeants, not so different.

This new model of Handgun fires better!

    Indeed!

    Kerns Shooting.

    Hobilars

Muwahid Foot Soldiers with the shields like in their info pic.

Murabitin Infantry also with their own shield.

    An Almoravid dialogue.

Wallachian Mercenary Cav. at full speed.

Remember Saracen Swordsmen?, new Copper shields and scimitars.

Charging Backed up by the ghulams.

The Polish heralic eagle on Polish Retainer's shields

    New maces.

    Italian Infantry: proudly Italian.

Teutonic Knights, black lances, as historians tell.

Chivalric Knights, with Chivalric lances and Chivalric faction recolourable Shields.

High Royal Knights, IMHO one of the most beautiful units in the game.

    The Inminent clash.

When I finally finish my work maybe I could pack 2 patches for Vanilla MTW-VI and for MTW-VI-XL. just modifying the graphics, without changing anything else.
Later a full patch for XL (new units, flags, buildings etc.) and, finally maybe my own mod.

    here's some more pics.

The celtic warriors, celtic shield and sword.

Bonnachts, repaired unit, unique irish green shields, and Heavy spears.

Most excellent! Wish I had half of our skill, I wouldn't need to be concerned abot my unit graphics for DATW! In fact, do you know of anyone that coulddo the animations(besides your self)?

Just let me know what you want and I'll see if I can do it, let's start with a single texture, and If I manage to spare some time out, maybe I could be of help for your mod.

Three cheers for Tyberius > hip hip hooray !! Tyberius I also look forward to you helping out YLC with some of his animations ,, As when Dark Ages is completed its another mod for us to sink our teeth into & a testament to MTW greatness ..
Perhaps along the same lines but somewhat much much easier than creating from scratch .. RESKINNING would it be possible .. hmm ? perhaps if not to difficult also enlarging some existing units .
BREIFLY > We curently have Elephants in two mods Hellenic HTW and Macsens Ancient TW which is still being developed and only going to get better with its upcoming release and proposed Diadochi expansion ,, What I envision is also having the option to add further elite units of Armoured Elephants !! where available in these mods .. The animations are already done so its just a matter of cloaking them in a Kataphrachtic skin ,,
Tyberius I have over the past 12 months learned the most basic of skills , tga's bifs-bufs ,review panels , parchments scrolls etc etc , I have also recently seen these animations work in motion as well ..
I would be willing to learn from you this most basic skill as we can do it in stages at the Lab ,, I am in no hurry so it can be done at your leisure & after or in conjuction with your modding schedule ..
    Cheers to all ,, DTS

Well, Reskinning is not much more difficult than just redo shields and weapons, is just lots and lots more work, since you have to reskin each single position on the 12 frames of the .bif file for each unit texture. I have myself had some failures on it (like trying to draw tartan texture on the peasant bif, just to have clansmen with Kilts, I abandoned the project after being finished the first frame) but to put scale mail to an elephant looks good. Where can I get the texture?........

WOW! I signed up just to beg you to release these shields and weapons. It gives ME TW a well deserved facelift. Also, have you considered updating the arrow textures? I never liked the vanilla one.

At Chainface - you registered just to post that.
... well worth it too. I myself almost wet myself after seeing the Chivalric Lances.

Also Tyberius, I would truly love it if you could help out my Three Kingdoms mod set in China. You'd be an unbelievable help, really. You know, bamboo spears and the works.

I think Arrows and Javelins are a hardcoded stuff, if someone tells me how to find those archives, I will modify them.

Javelins and Arrows are located in the Textures folder too. You'll need Ultimate Paint to edit them, which is free I believe. It's named XploPage.lbm (I think)

If you're going to be a graphics wiz, you'll need Ultimate Paint to open and edit .lbm files. I believe that UP is downloadable from the Mizus server. It's a bit different so you'll have to get used to it like you might have gotten used to GIMP or Photoshop. Or simply exporting it into a bmp or something so you can edit it elsewhere is good. Have I dazed you with a yapping on yet? ^_^

Lbm files are used for some of the graphics used in the Battle folder. UP is handy because once you've got it, you can edit every bit of graphical work in all of MTW. That is assuming you have something that edits TGA files and of course, you have readBIF.

I do have UP but not using it because it doesn't handle palettes well, every time I tried to edit an unit icon lbm it gave me a good image but unable to replace purples and greens for the faction colours, so I use seqgrab that is slightly more complicated but always gives me a full color replaceable lbm file.
since the xplopage doesn't have faction colours involved I think UP may work well this time, the problem now is where to find the file that tells the game where to find the arrow, cause if I modify the arrow's lenght it will appear sort of cropped.

I'm pretty sure that's hardcoded. But not certain, I could be wrong. Now what's all this I hear about seqgrab?

See...I'll gladly pack and share all my graphics "facelift" to Viking Horde's amazing XL mod, and some cool units added from Bkb's Supermod, as well as all my own new units , but I don't know the protocol, if there is some kind of unseen copyright law, or if I have to give the credits to the corresponding authors, or just ask for permission. If someone could enlight me on that I will appreciate.

Hi Tyberius, I have send you a PM with the e-mail adress of VikingHorde. First I suggest that you ask for permission, and then mention the authors in the credits of your work.

I don't think there are any set rules or copyright laws you have to worry about. But etiquette dictates you give credit and thanks to people who's other work you've used. As well as ask for permission before you borrow someone else's work.

You can always slap on the generic:

All work, including (but not limited to) graphics, contained in this modification belongs to their respective owners - (insert real name, © 2007-08)
Then say thanks to Viking Horde and BKB. Simple. (That is if you've already asked them. )
Also, I don't believe anybody in this forum could be bothered to take legal action over something as petty as this. Not to say that your graphics work is petty. <_<
