Thumbs up Macedonian charge takes comp with it

Playing as Makedonia and fighting the Romans I keep getting a stop error when I charge cavalry into the enemy. The computer crashes and restarts, just at the moment the cavalry hit the enemy. It seems to happen more often when they hit the rear/flank of a unit. Its happened both in sieges and standard battles. So far Ive been getting around it by just doing without cavalry, but of course playing as Makedon that's a big sacrifice.

Link to save file here - http://www.axifile.com/?5807149

In that save file, after ending turn the Romans will attack my sieging army, and in the battle you can see the problem.

I havnt seen this happen with any other factions so far.

Thanks for your report. Possibly there's something wrong with an animation for one of the units in question.

Johnny, when you make a new response in the thread it is bumped to the first page. Also, I have made this thread a personal sticky, along with all the others that I haven't figured out yet.

Edit: Some moderator seems to have moved your post in, so I removed the quote and edited the rest of my post.

You sure it isn't a hardware problem? Hmm, how big were the battles in which you crashed?

The power supply in my comp was getting old, and whenever I did something that drew a lot of system power, it would crash, switch off and turn itself back on. Most memorably when my 3000-man Baktrian army was fighting a 3000-man Seleukid stack, and I made the charge that would win the day. It usually only occurred for me in very large, fullstack or heavy reinforcement battles.

Then I changed it, and I no longer had such problems, even when I handled even larger battles. Hmm. Just a thought.

Johnny, could you try to run a custom battle with one campanian cavalry against one pantodapoi or something similar that you know should work? If it crashes when you do that, it's pretty certain that it's something to do with the animation for that. I think I've heard the unit mentioned in some trouble earlier but can't remember where.

Reason for CTDs and glitches is buggy "eb/data/models_unit/ebmodel_hellenistic_cavalry_aspidophoroi_SOR__high.CAS" file (used by aspidophoroi and campanian cavalry). As a temporary solution, try replacing such references in DMB with something similar, like those of tarentinoi cavalry. You will get weird looking men, but no CTDs at least. Or you can replace textures as well to tarentinoi version. Or find better replacement candidate (eg some other "fs_hc_javelinman, fs_hc_swordsman" cav type in DMB).

An update on this post - https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...67#post1747167

(I would have posted on that thread, but Im not sure if you have some way of seeing it, other than constantly rechecking old threads for new posts?)

I encountered the same problem again, this time playing as Carthage. However I was using the same cavalry unit as before - Campanian cavalry. I suspect it is this unit that has the problem. (By the way Ive never seen anything crash the game so badly, it dosnt just CTD, the machine actualy has to switch off and restart.) Hope that helps!
