Computers generally get slow on bootup and stuff if you keep them going without regular maintainence such as defragging and removing junk that is no longer needed.

It can also be down to how much space is on your HD. I generally try and keep 10GB free on my main HD, because if i go over the 10GB mark, it slowly goes to hell. Random crashes, 5 minute boot times, all sorts of joyous things.

Go ahead and defragment the HDD and free up some space. I can't think of anything else right now.

Did it STOP, or does it just look like it stopped? ScanDisk needs time. However, if it is taking more than three hours, there may be an issue.

Leave it for at least five hours. If it hangs, restart. There may be a hardware issue if this is the case.

    Dang. I have made everything.

And the guy of the tech service reinstalls Windows and the problem is sorted

Anyway, thank you with the help in the matter.

Speaking of defragmenting, I have a question. Will defragmenting my hard drive keep my old files and programs in their proper structure, etc.?

I'm fairly sure I know how to defragment, but I, who has built a computer from scratch, has never defragmented a hard drive. Anything I should be aware of? How often should I defragment?
