    Default replacing portraits help

Ok I've searched here and twcenter to no luck.

1: I unpacked all the pak files and replaced the portraits I wanted to replace and then moved them back intothe DATA folder. Doesn't work.

2: I deleted the pak files after I unpacked them. CTD.

3: I'm thinking I need to repack the files and then put them in..

do i repack them as ui_0 or patch_1?

and also, to repack I have to use the txt document.. so I have to go

    data\ui\egyptians\portraits\portraits\young\generals\000.tga
    .....

    data\ui\egyptians\portraits\portraits\young\generals\084.tga

(there are 84 portraits for egypt) and do the same thing for the cards, old, dead, etc?

    that's a long long work...

    some help and guidance please

    try using a mod-folder instead

they should work from that you need to set up mod_folder first, minimum requirements are map files and the regions and settlements name file in data/text. If you don't know how to do that please yell....

then put your new portraits in
    mod_folder/data/ui/egyptian/portraits/portraits etc.....
note it is egyptian and not egyptians just incase that explains problem

if you really want to try re-packing Red Spot gave a link to a program that produces lists of files recently
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...t=38736&page=2

but you really shouldn't need to

game will look at mod-folder first for most things then refer to RTW data, so you don't need to copy in everything from RTW data.

What you do need is to make new folder in Rome - Total War folder called
my_mod and make data folder inside that.

easy method is then copy everything from
    RTW/data/text and RTW/data/world
    to RTW/my_mod/data/text and RTW/my_mod/data/world

then launch game from desktop shortcut with -mod:my_mod on it.
see http://www.twcenter.net/wiki/Command_line_functions for example pic of where that goes.

That is basic mod_folder and you will be running at that stage with exactly the same stuff as in RTW/data folder. To now make changes put your changed things like portraits in equivalent place to where they would go in RTW/data but instead in
    RTW/my_mod/data/ui/egyptian/portraits/portraits.........

    sorry for the double post,

but regarding the mod folder, I did it with the banners in the data/banners and data/models/textures so I can have 2 different mods installed but the banners and textures dont work unless i replace the original ones in the vanilla folder. do you know why?
