Thread: Merc generals?

    Question Merc generals?

First off i love this mod and i appreciate all the hard work that the EB team has put into it, it is quickly consuming all the free time i have

This is my first time posting on the Total war Forums but i have used it many times to look for answers, I like what iv seen so far

I have a question however, I have not been able to hire any mercenary generals. I haven't found any other topics that address this and unless i misread this is supposed to be included in this version of the mod. It is show on the EB Recruitment viewer the locations and the level of MIC that is required to get a general but i still can't, i have my city at the proper level (huge) but there is not a way as far as i can tell. I may have misunderstood the circumstances and/or method of hire a General but any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for all help provided

To recruit Generals you need ot have a regional mic level 5, which can only be build in gov4 provinces. Afaik they are avaiable in all provinces.

ah! gov 4 i understand now

Thanks for your help, i was unfortunately blessed with pathetic family that doesn't like to multiply :(

Edit: Ok i have it working now, after its a huge city and has the highest regional MIC you can recruit any general that the province ethnically belongs too. I tried Taras for example and now i have access too both Italic Generals and Hellenistic Generals for training.

In EB MICs are not tied to city size. You can build Level 5 local MICs in every "allied" (Level 4) town.

Bonny is one of the EB team members . He used to coordinate the submissions for changes until he was replaced with a paranoid android.

Back to Merc generals, does anyone know if these guys have their bodyguards topped up when out on campaign? Or do they have to be in town to pick up fresh guys?

I've built a full stack army with 8 Lesser Celtic Kings, 4 Greek Generals, 4 Numidian Generals, and 4 Italic Generals. They're mostly 1 or 2 silver chevronned due to training bonuses and retainers, and I'm about to take them over to Asia Minor to kick some Ptolemy arse.

It would be really nice if they do get new guys to make up for the fallen. Obviously I need to be careful that the main guy in each unit doesn't die!

I think ( but Im new so could easily be wrong) they are like family members in that they cant retrain more men in a MIC but gain more men each turn according to their influence and some other factors that I cant remember.

Also I trained a Celtic Lesser King who is sposed to have 160 men but he only has about 120?
The other 2 cavalry generals I trained both have their full complement of over 100.

Unit size = huge of course.

Sorry another question: Does recruitable general's upkeep only consist of whats listed on their unit card (576 for Celtic King etc) ?

IIRC, you also have to pay wages for general's bodyguards.

Yeah, I got to the point where I have more money than I know what to do with, and wondered if I would be able to generate an army that automatically replaces casualties. Of course if a general dies I'll lose an entire unit, but I thought it would be fun to try.

The plan is to romp through Asia Minor looting and sacking for as long as I can. I don't want to capture any settlements there, just punish the Ptolemies for being, well, Ptolemies. Hopefully some cities will rebel back to the Greeks, who have been exiled to the north shore of the Black Sea. I think they're finding it a little chilly up there, and are pining for some Mediterranean sun!

I'll let you know how it pans out. Has anyone else done something similar?

If you really feel like exploiting the game, you could always use the create unit cheat to make a full stack of Spartans . That way, you won't have to worry about losing the units if the general dies. In fact, if you used them properly, you wouldn't really have to worry about losing any men at all.

A lesser general, the celtic kind anyways, can be recruited to full numbers, 82 at large unit size, via retraining at a MIC that allows it. When you recruit the general, though, he only starts off with like 62 people. So that may account for why when you recruit an infantry general, he doesn't start with full members while a cavalry general does.

Man, imagine doing that with the Steppe Generals(shudders).
