Thread: CD Key

  1. #1

    Default CD Key

    Hey folks,

My computer recently crashed so I have to reinstall everything, including MTWII. However, I have no idea where to find the CD Key, anyone have any idea where it is? Not on the back of the manual. Can I get a replacement?

Sorry old boy but it is on the back of the manual in a white field titled Medieval II: Total War Key code:

    and conceals from the stupid,
the vast limits of their knowledge.

nope, on the back of the manual is an advert for Total War: Eras.

For me too in the back of the manual is the advert for Eras. My key was in a white label-type sticker on the inside of the case, just above the CD's. You might want to look into your original CD case.

I would advise you to contact SEGA's support (phone number in manual) and ask them whether they can replace it for you.
Alternatively, you could get a program to "retrieve" old files from your hard drive (works at times even after formatting) and hope that your cd key is one of the retrieved files.

You don't need the CD key for anything but multiplayer though.

If it's not on the back of your manual, there was another card in the box with the key on it. Try to find that.

yeah if i had that card its no where to be found, I got this game when it first came it. its a miracle that i even have the box/manual.

To be honest, when I lose my CD key I always just get one from websites that have them listed. It's not illegal to use them if you actually bought the game, as far as I know. But it might not be a good idea to discuss those sites on this website, so I would just google it. I'm assuming you honestly bought the game and your story is true. Afterall, if you were pirating it you would have no trouble getting a CD key. You probably won't be able to play multiplayer with this method.

You have two other options, neither will work. You might be able to send your disk to SEGA for a CD key, but I don't know if they offer that service. You could check your registry but you said you lost everything so I doubt it's there.

Also- in the future, ALWAYS right those annoying little codes on a piece of paper! I used to save them on my computer, and when it crashed I had to reinstall everything. Unfortunately it took my list of CD keys with it!

If that's the case, then do customer support first (even MICROSOFT was about to give me a new CD Key for AOEIII, but I found it during the call to support), and Hoplite's suggestion second. I don't think it's a good idea to discuss that further though.

It is printed on a card in the DVD case. I got tired of searching for my keys so now I write them directly on the CD with a marker as soon as I open the package.

Just a friendly reminder: discussion of piracy related topics is prohibited on the Org, even when it is for a legitimate and legal purpose. We don't want that information being used by other people for illegal purposes later on.

If you cannot find your serial number and have lost the manual/card it was printed on, the only advice we can give you is to contact Sega customer support.

Does anyone know how responsive Sega customer support is usually? I imagine it is not very good this week.
