    Default EDU question

I moded the EDU file for Medieval2: Total war kingdoms America's campaign, to make some units more historically accurate.

However, changes doesn't appear in the game. Unit info shows the same stats as before. Does this mean, that something else must be done?
I checked it in both my saved campaign, and also tried to start a completely new one, but no result.

Another question: Does changes in EDU have an effect in saved campaign, or do they apply only after a new campaign has been started?
It would be nice, if I could change the attributes during the campaign, slowly increasing the effectiveness of gunpowder weapons.

Two things you need to do for changes to take effect:
    1. Make sure that the modded file is in your data folder (the data folder of your kingdoms campaign)
    2. Make sure you run the switch either in your preference file or via shortcut

All files directly found inside the data folder (i.e. not data\world for instance) will always affect a running campaign, so your's will take effect once you complete the steps above.
Want gunpowder, mongols, and timurids to appear when YOU do?
Playing on a different timescale and never get to see the new world or just wanting to change your timescale?

    1. Yes, it is in the data folder
    2.
Must be the problem. After reading several tutorials, I must say that none mentions it. And now I can't find the switcher. (sorry, I have only modded RTW until now)

Quick copy paste job from my mod readme:

The target of said file should read similar to this:

    C:\Medieval\medieval2.exe --io.file_first

Where "C:\Medieval\" varies depending on your installation but medieval2.exe --io.file_first should be constant.

As above does not always work for some systems, the path may alternatively have to be similar to this:
    "C:\Medieval\medieval2.exe" --io.file_first
Alternatively, look for the preference file responsible for each kingdoms campaign (I think they likely have their own and don't use the normal medieval2.preference.cfg in the medieval2 folder) and add
    Code:
    [io]
    file_first = 1
To the top of it marking it ready only afterwards.

There should be a few topics in the modding questions forum here that deal with that. I posted my hypothesis (that worked) in one of them and someone else was spreading the word for me.

Thanks, really appreciate the help, and it works now. I am just having some weird graphic bugs, when I run the game from shortcut now, but I will figure out what is the problem

Check the modding questions section (this forum)
There were 2 or 3 threads covering it and one of them had the solution on how to avoid that.

Perfect! Found the reason! And the solution is in this topic:

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=92155

(in case anyone encounters something like that)

Now muskets of late 17th century work better than those of the early 16th century
