    Default bodyguard replacements

does a general have to be in a town for his bodyguards to replace their casualties? i asked this because i sent a family member to gain some experience chevrons before the next battle, so i had him single-handedly defeat 3 units of persian archers, thus he got 3 bronze chevrons, but he lost 23 bodyguards in the process. he used to have 54 guards, then he had 31. in the next turn, he only had 43. i want him to have his full amount (54), so do i have to put him into a city to regenerate to his full amount, or will it slowly come back? (i didnt play the turn after)

Very slowly out of a town and slowly in a town from what I can tell. It also seems that if you lose almost all bodyguards you get more the next turn.

Even if a General has the max (125 I think) he may get traits later that reduce his bodyguard, so when they are retrained there will be fewer men.

It can get really annoying when you have a general who is fighting tons of battles without much rest and you never seem to have a good amount of bodyguards. Just more incentive to rest your generals, I guess.

You could get together a good general and two family members as bodyguard reinforcements and also as a strong cavalry hit.

    Default AW: bodyguard replacements

I once had a really good general who conquered Persia. After one "accident" in battle he had to get along with 18 Bodyguards most of the time. After several years he had 21 again. It all depends on the traits. Conquerer, wealthy and such traits do not help.

The size of the bodyguard depends on Personal Security + Influence I believe. The regen rate of body is something I don't know even though most of mine regen in 3-5 turns from near destruction.

It seems to be Personal Security and general's stars. I've been experimenting giving all my family members very high personal security as part of the campaign houserules, and it seems those whom I don't give high general's stars don't get that many.

Tell me about it! There was this Carthie general whose unit I beat down to himself + 1 bodyguard left before he escaped the encirclement and fled. The very next turn he was back up to 50+ men
