Wouldn't it be good if you could do that in real life?

I don't have a problem with unrelated characters swapping ancillaries. If an older governer who's never going to see the front line again has a spear carrier or runner sitting around gathering dust, why not give them to a green FM on his way to the front? He's going to need all the help he can get against the nudie men of gaul! If you can get a clerk or grain merchant in exchange to help with the paperwork (there's always paperwork), that just makes good sense to me.

Because ancilleries are aquired mostly by schools and academies, I regard them as books the characters have read or better lessons they have learned (and understood). Therefore they can not be passed in my games. The only expcetion is the spearcarrier/shieldbearer that represents an elaborate armour (should better add hitpoints not BG value) and can be passed from father to son.

With that post you made me think about including the source character's personality into the equation: Selfish/Disloyal types wouldn't give away their ancilliaries.

Ahh, that's a good point. I might take that into account from now on.

Another of the "personal" type ancillary I don't transfer are Mistresses. I think if you're randy enough to get one in the first place then you deserve the fertility bonuses they give. Plus, I don't like the idea of some 16 year old hanging our with a woman his great-grandfather picked up 60 years earlier...

Hmmm... Only the worst type of guys would give away their mistresses. Apt to bribe, disloyal over-enthusiastic punks... To buy the support of/ensnare the target FM. The target, in that case, needs be dull/uncharismatic.

Default AW: Little question regarding education

The worst ancillary is the overprotective nanny. It's a bit hard to imagine how a general goes to battle with his nanny, especially when he has finally reached his 60s. The evil mother-in-law, I never understood why a FM can have such, while she is at the same moment at home with her husband, another FM normally, probably giving birth to a child... one can only wonder how that can happen.

A person doesn't have to follow another around constantly to have a negative effect on his life/reputation. An evil mother in law in the capital spreading lies about a man, influencing his children against him while he is fighting hundreds of miles away could be a very nasty thing.

This one is in particular strange when held by a son-in-law of the king....

Does evil mother in law die?

I thought my 70 years old general still had his evil mother in law... (I might be wrong)
