Thread: Feudal vs Chivalric dismounted knights?
SillyEnglishKnigget 02:02 01-01-2008
Is there any major difference between the two aside from Chivalric upgrading to full plate where Feudal cannot?

Also, does France get dismounted Chivalric knights? I saw one version of the FAUST which confirms this, a later version denies it.

Chivalrics have 1 more armor than feudals (13/22 vs 13/21).
France is listed as an owner for dismounted chivs and can bribe them into their army, but they cannot hire them from any building without mods (similar to england not having access to armored sergeants even though the entries exist)

Don't the frenchies have dismounted noble knights or some such as a replacement?

They do, and those look pretty much like a carbon copy of Dismounted English Knights with a relatively weak attack, even with the 1.2 fix.

That's because the fix only fixed them against cavalry, not against infantry.

No big difference between Feudal/Chivalric Knights. If you play Hungary, Feudal Knights in fact have better stats. -1 armour but +2 shield.

Can you explain this bribing?

I've played the game through as Spain and never saw this bribing?

When your diplomat tries to bribe an enemy army, usually the terms are that all units disband, unless the troop type is one owned by your faction. If that is the case then the unit can join your forces.
I have actually only seen this happen with generals though, but I don't bribe that often since killing is usually cheaper. I only ever bribe when I am surprised by a large army in a relatively undefended region of mine.

Bribing can cause your king to lose chivalric virtues.

Which I find amusingly ironic when bribing chivalric knights.

DFK's are "normal" infantry while DCK's are "slow" infantry.

Unit Type Running Speed (m/s)
Horse, Light 10.8
Horse, Heavy 8.80
Horse, Armoured 7.06
Camel 6.67
Elephant 6.23
Infantry, Fast 4.27
Infantry, Normal 3.59
Infantry, Slow 2.99
Infantry, Very Slow 2.63

This is with Patch 1.2 for vanilla M2TW.

That's better, at least. something more than attack/defence. People, remember that the stats you see in unit info in the game are only a small part of all variables that affect the battle efficiency. Most are hidden. If you look into EDU, and then compare, that's better.
But I never like to hear how units are being compared only by stats. Unless you test them against each other, or against other units in real battle, you shouldn't say that one is weaker/stronger/similar. What matters is the result, nut numbers in their info.
As well, consider how far each unit's armour/weapons can be improved, and with what experience they start with in the campaign. That will show, which unit actually is more useful.
