Stakes are indeed cheese against the broken AI. Against a human player, they are near useless since you can easily circumvent the stakes (unless they are smart and manage to deploy a circular/chokepoint setup)

I've played a battle with a friend we both know the tricks of the game so he choose France and me Turkey...we deployed and i deliberately left a flank subguarded with only missile troops at best...the terrain was grassy so between the flowers he didn't spot the stakes, needless to say he charged head on into the stacks with 4 units of lancers and before they hit he was all cocky saying "Ce te crap mah fraiere!!!" synonym phrase "I'M OPENING A FRESH CAN OF WHUPASS ON YOU" and when he got all massacred he was like WTF![]()
