    Default Rotate formation command?

    I remember reading somewhere in one of the various MTW guides out there that there is a command that allows you to rotate a selected formation so that they move to keep the same shape but all face the new direction.

    I know that alt+left click moves a unit but keeps it's facing the same and that alt+right click changes the units facing without moving it at all, but is there a way to move a group of units so that the formation simply rotates?

    I know it was in one of the guides on the net, but I can't find it anywhere.

    I have a sneaking suspicion that Frogbeastegg knows it though.....

    Responding to changes in the enemy's approach direction is a major pain when you have to reposition each unit manually!!

    It seems like the thing everyone must announce. This is my first post, and I hope in the process I don't embarrass myself too much.
    Moving on...
    I am a soley RTW player, and all I know is that the default hotkeys for rotating counter-clock and clockwise are the <,> and <.> buttons respectively. Another way to quickly set position is to group your units into a desired formation, and then click and drag as if your are setting unit depth with your mouse. This is a useful tool I found out myself. If all else fails, click on 'controls' on your main menu and find the keys from there. I hope that helps.

    I'm not sure those commands exist in MTW. A good excuse to fire up the old lady again.

    Actually...
    The RTW formation control keys would better be defined as "the second and third keys from right shift" because the marking on them varies depending on the keyboard layout. (The engine operates according to the scan codes, which hardly ever change from one layout to another.) I have &#199; and &#214; there in my Turkish-Q, for instance.

    To rotate a formation you need to have it selected as a group. This way you can rotate your entire army (but would need to regroup everything again afterwards if you want different groups again). Then use the alt-right click command as you would to alter the facing of a single unit. You can also alt-hold right and drag, and watch the "ghost" until you get it right. If you select-all but the units aren't grouped, then they will alter facing, but stay in the same position.

    Thanks for the info guys.

    Hey on another topic, is there a list of the XL mod unit stats available somewhere? I love all the new units that seem to be available, but I don't know where to find thier stats or descriptions.

    I've just loaded this mod up and have started a High Era Expert campaign as the Scotts, I'd love to know the actual stats for the Scottish Lancers and Scottish Horsemen - or the Scottish Spearmen and Scottish Warriors for that matter!

    also, some of the existign unit's stats have changed i think so I need to get my bearings so I don't get slaughtered.

    I have already had one very memorable battle already though. My fledgling army of 1 spearmen, 1 xbow, 2 royal knights, 2 Scottish Warriors (really only 1.5 units thanks to revious casualties) and 2 Highland Clansmen (again partly depleted) invaded the weakly defended Mercia. The English retreated to their stronghold, and next turn the full English army, some arrived from France to break the siege.

    Just under 400 Scotts prepared to face off against almost 800 English troops consisting of Spearmen, Longbows, Royal Knights and Urban Militia, most of which had Armour and/or weapon upgrades. generals were evenly matched with both nations Kings presentand equally experienced.

    The english had the advantage of better missile troops and more of them, vastly superior numbers and better weapons/armour. The scotts had better shock troops, though very few of them and the advantage of terrain. The battle was brutal and tight, casualties mounting up on both sides, and attrition was starting to wear the Scott's down. Once thier inital charge had finished, the English numbers strated to tell. The turning point was when the Egnlish King joined the battle. A small group of 17 Highland Clansmen managed to break away and hit them in the flank as they were battling with the last of the beleagured Scottish Warriors. Soon after, the English King was killed and the heart went out of the english army. Spearmen and militia started to route en-masse, the remaining Scottish infantry chased them to the borders, while the royal knights chased down the Longbows and put them to the sword.

    Final result was around 200 scotts killed, and around 500 English killed or captured plus the loss of their King and the back of the english army broken. Reinforcements arrived to back up the scotts, and now they rule all of Britain and Ireland.
