Arrrrrrrrr, matey! Its alive´n´kickin. The community is working hard on a final release of the Build mod, current version is 14.6, once its done it´ll be called New Horizons. The last two months were pretty exciting actually, contact with the russian devs of CoAS (Cosairs 4) has been established and it seems we´ll finally get the proper tools and information to turn PoTC -and CoAS, of course- into something *really* exceptional. If someone wants more information, just follow the link in my sig (the regular forum should be online again after the weekend, piratesahoy its getting a big facelift atm^^)
But enough of the thread hijack - sorry, Bob.

Too late!already!
CoaS: City of Abandoned Ships, right? They say it will be like good old Sea Dogs, which is good news even if it's only half true.

yup, its City of Abandoned Ships (worst game title evarrrr, tbh). The feature list is impressive, the only letdown so far is that you have to fight giant krakens and other mythical stuff once in while, so I don´t think its a true SD successor.
Btw, here´s another very promising pirate-themed game:
East India Company

Some screens of CoAS.
I was going to ask if it uses the same engine as AOP did, but based on English uniforms and picture of armor, I've never seen anything like that in AOP. Hopefully it's not a flop like AOP was though.

Same engine, but slightly updated (AoP is Storm Engine 2.5, CoAS uses 2.8).
Well, CoAS -unlike PotC or AoP- isn´t developed by Akella, but by a former russian modding team (seaward.ru), so there´s definitly hope that CoAS will beHopefully it's not a flop like AOP was though.
an enjoyable (or should I say "playable"?^^) game out of the box.

Is CoAS the new game I think I saw in the old PA! forum that the devs wanted modders from PoTC to switch to and that they wouldn't be disapointed?
