BROKEN CRESCENT--Mediterrean Trader/Silk Caravans

Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well. As for me, I could complain...yadda, yadda, yadda.

I'm really enjoying Broken Crescent, but I'm curious as to how the above elements work. For the first one, the Mediterrean Trader, I have sent my merchants to places by ship to only local spots.

Question: Does the Mediterrean Trader take my merchants further, and if so, how do I get it to work to earn me extra money?

I guess I can ask the same thing about the Silk Caravan. I'm playing as Georgia in this mod, and I HAVE two Silk Caravan stops in my little country. How does the Silk Caravan work to earn me extra money?

As usual, any ideas, suggestions and vague notions will be gratefully entertained here.
