Strange that all the explanations are about (thinking) being right. According to a few online dictionaries (and my understanding), it has more to with "proceeding from undue claims or self-importance". Most of the time you can pick out the arrogant people without listening to one word they are saying. It is not about being right, that is in their eyes only a logical consequence of being so important
