    Default Tough decision

It took me a while to decide whether or not to accept this proposal. In the end I decided that it was beyond my means, and so I regretful declined.

Of course if they only asked for 194,000 mnai and seven settlements, I could have lived with that. But not eight...

no, it was a bad deal- u probaly would have lost income from the sudden loss of those cities- it would have taken a while to get it back. and the ceasefire yount have lasted. was it a very bloody war?

No, mostly strangulations and suffocations. I hardly had to stab, shoot, pierce, slice, dice or cut at all. I armed my troops with rope and pillows for the most part. Of course the Ascensii had to just slap the enemy until they gave up...

    Default AW: Tough decision

That shows how the diplomacy actually is messed up: They are asking for a status quo ante (I suppose that all these towns had been Makedonian before the war). That would be historical and acceptable, at least between Hellenic factions, as long as they would had admitted their defeat in any way. For example they should have offered the money, an alliance, to attack your enemies, something like that and not demanded anything.

So that is either messed up in a way that the AI can't recognize who is winning or always choses the wrong option, or the game waits for you to negociate by offering, for example, "ceasefire, trade rights and the towns save for Athenai, Korinthos and Chalkis".

This thread got me thinking - has anybody ever accepted one of the AI factions' more unreasonable types of offers? And tried playing on from that position? It could make for some interesting role-playing and additional challenge.

    Default Tough Decision v 2.0

Here is my version of "Tough Decisions"

Of course, the Greeks only demanded 44,280 mnai and 5 cities. However, since they were down to their last city, I felt I had no need to comply to any of their demands. (look at minimap)...

    I actually asked that.

    ... more than once.

    ... one time, they accepted.

... only to attack me a few turns later.

    ...

... in the end, they lost the war (only some provinces though, I didn't really want to fight them)

What are you laughing at? I wouldn't laugh if I were you! Don't you see you've just run into their trap? I would seriously advise you, Apgad, to accept their generous offer as long as you can!!! Or do you want to get pierced by mighty Sarissas of Pergamon, err, Makedon?

If they had asked you to become a protectorate too, it would be acceptable- there would be a real guarantee that they would look after you and leave you in peace, while they conquer the world. No one attacks their own slaves with no reason, you would be safe

As it is now, I congratulate you on finding courage to decline the proposal from heirs of Alexander.
I admire your bravery and determination to fight for your freedom!

In vanilla I'd often get a "accept or we will attack/please do not attack" from Numidia

In this and other mods I've also been given "Please do not attack/Accept or we'll attack" offers (when at war). Every once in a while (when they don't have pathetic stacks besieging my cities) I'll accept. From my perspective the offer seems to mean absolutely nothing to the AI. I wonder though, if not following through with my part of the bargain somehow hurts some sort of hidden reputation thing in the RTW engine.

To be fair to the AI, in some campaigns you will run into a faction that never attacks you, provided that you could stomp 'em and they have plenty of rebel territory to expand into. In an .8 campaign as the Romani, the Sweboz actually gave me a gift of money!

Would a diplomat gain more influence if he had a lot of "Please do not attack/Accept or we will attack" proposals accepted?

I doubt it, but instead of accepting, you could give a counterproposal and offer the same that was offered to you. They will surely accept, as that is what they wanted, and I think your diplomat gains experience this way, as he actually made a successful deal.
