I'm sure we have a considerable number of people here that know a thing or two in Japanese. Can anyone provide some quips, phrases, and generally cheezy lines in that language? Since I'm sure most tavern patrons don't read or write it a phonetic spelling would be appreciated.
It would also be nice if there were some neat words or phrases from STW that someone could post. Haven't played the game myself.

Um well....Konichiwa is hello, but I'm sure most people know that.
I actually don't think there is that many people who can speak Japanese at forums since it mostly has an America/Europe emphasis and few actually learn Japanese unless they're native from Japan or 2nd generation(which is more likely)

.
Babelfish does Japanese.
Here you can convert from Kanji into Romaji (Latin Alphabet).
Check the translation two ways or you may end up saying nit instead of vinegar (both
sirke in Turkish) like a certain Mouzafphaerre who should remain unnamed.

"
Arigatou" goes for "thanks" and "
Arigatou gozai-masou" is the formal way in a grateful manner just as "Thank you very much".
Japanese (being from the same family as Turkish, therefore souding quite easy and distinctive to me) is a read-as-you-write kind of language. That means rarely swallowing some letter and forming the words by the alphabetic pronounciation of them. May be a bit hard to get correct spelling at first for some Indo-European speaker. But effort is worth doing.
I also heard "
Itadakimasu" as a meal starter expression. They say it means "Let's eat".
Hang around
here for more.
Anata ga suki desu. (I like you)
Anatta gaaa suuuki des.
Can be used to deepen her emotional involvement once she has made a similar declaration.
Chuu shite kudasai. {Please kiss me (she should say this)}
Chuu shiiitay kudasaieee
Self explanatory... drive her to it.
Hito me bore. (Love @ 1st sight)
Hiito me boray.
Can be used as a joke.
Sore wa, ai no hyougen desu ka? (Is that an expression of love?)
Soray wah, aaai no heeyougen des kaaa ?
Can be used as a joke.
Kunoichi (female ninja!) [this can be an excellent nickname for text messages)
Kue no ichi
This can be really excellent if she has a sense of humor. Create a conspiracy joke, you can call her this is public and only you two know what you are saying. If done correctly, it's very efficient. Inside joke that no one else knows about.
Rabu hoteru (love hotel i.e 1 or 2 hours room for yen)
Raabu hoteruuu
Joke material. Careful not to induce cultural defence.
Phonetics are almost always short, articulated and precise, almost like they are written. These are not all that useful but maybe some use, look for the basic ones i.e bon appetit, thanks, etc (ikadarimasu, arrigato etc) edit: like LEN mentioned.

Anatawatotemoutsukushii (You are very beutiful)
A na ta wa to te mo u tsu ku shi i
Gochisousama (Say this after you finish eating)
Bokugaharau (Ill pay)
Vladimir 14:03 02-06-2008
What about burping? I've heard it's polite to belch after a good meal. Is is one of those frat party barrel chested affairs? Should I give the nearest guy a high five?
I'm actually somewhat serious there. I'll contain the other gases though.
BEEFY IS THE MAN !!!
REI!
ONEGAISHIMASU!
How do you say the following in Japanese, please Sensei:
You pay.
We'd never get along, we're too similar.
You would drive me crazy.
Can I switch you off for a couple of minutes while I talk ?
I love Japanese food!
What do you think of Kunoichi ? Is that a cool funny nickname for a girl ?
Doomo Arigato Gozaimasu Sensei!
REI!
I'm not suggesting you use those Vlad, just would like to know coz I wold use them since I always establish a playful frame and she knows I'm playing. If you do use them you better make sure she knows you're playing with her, and make sure she's playful herself.
Vladimir 14:10 02-07-2008
All I got out of that was something about her playing with herself...and that's all I need.
We'll try to set something up for this weekend.
hahaha!
Beefy187 08:19 02-08-2008
ill do both polite and non polite form (In simplest way possible)
You pay.
Polite: Harattekuremasuka? (Could you pay?)
N Polite: Harae (Pay

)
We'd never get along, we're too similar.
Polite: Anata to watashi wa zettai ni umaku ikisouniarimasenn. Nisugiteimasu.
Non polite: Orera wa umaku ikane e. Nisugitenn dayo!
You would drive me crazy.
Polite: Anatato issho ni iru to atama ga okashiku narisoudesu
Non polite: Teme e to iruto atama ga okashiku nanndayo!
Can I switch you off for a couple of minutes while I talk ?
Polite: Watashiga hanashiteiru aida sukoshidake shizukani shiteite kuremasuka?
Non polite: damare (Shut up)
I love Japanese food!
Polite: Washoku wa daisuki desu
Nonpolite: Washoku ume e
What do you think of Kunoichi ? Is that a cool funny nickname for a girl ?
Answer: Im more of a samurai fan and Ninja & Kunoichi are not my favourite. Attack from the back, use of misiles, night attacks, 10 vs 1 battles..
For a nickname it doesnt have a bad meaning so I suppose its alright. It could become a compliment but.. Its not really catchy..
Doomo Arigato Gozaimasu Sensei!

Never heard of it. But when you drink tea or eat noodles you make noises. Only dirty nobles drink tea with out making noises
Before you eat clap twice then say "Itadakimasu" that would be cool if you can remember. After you finish say "Gochisousamadeshita" Thats all you need I think..
Couple stuff about chop sticks and table manners
-Never stab the chopstick in to rice. It looks like a grave yard
-Never use chopstick if the other person is offering you using their chopstick. It looks like the funeral ritual. Just offer then your bowl and shell put it in there.
-Never chew your chopstick
-Never use your chopstick on anything other then food or soup.
-Soup always goes on the right hand side of your rice.
-When eating sushi never put too much soya sauce on it. Not only it will taste bad but it looks gross..So just take the fish off and dip the end on the soyasauce
- when using wasabi correct way is to take a bit with your chopstick and paste it on the rice.
Theres more im sure but
If you ask her why they do it that way that might turn in to a interesting conversation.
Again.. wish you luck

I don't think Japanese are Bedouins, or vice versa.

Beefy187 02:41 02-09-2008
Theres a theory that Japanese might be related to Jewish though

Don't know that one but it's been nigh proven that the ancestors of the modern Japanese were living in present-day Tanzania about 60,000 years ago.

Does anyone know any good websites where you can type in English phrases and get the Japanese equivalent in English language? Alternatively any good " learning Japanese" websites for basic and intermediate conversation ?
Thanks in advance.

....though I would advise that you don't use the translator to translate whole chunks of text. Or even a few phrases. Japanese, even more so than Chinese, is pretty context-specific, and very different from English in structure. It would come out sounding ridiculous.
