Eisenbarth said. Investigators were not immediately able to
enter parts of the smoldering building because the
structure, much of it made of wood, was in danger of
collapsing.

The cause of the fire, which started Sunday afternoon, was
not clear and the victims had not yet been identified,
Eisenbarth said.

Police said 24 people all of them Turkish citizens
were registered as living in the four-story building, but
that more people had been in the house because of carnival
celebrations.

Police said the house’s old wooden staircase swiftly
collapsed after the fire broke out; and that, in some
cases, residents threw their children to police officers
before jumping out of the building themselves.

On Sunday, a fire in a housing block in Ludwigshafen killed
nine people with Turkish backgrounds.

The blaze has increased tensions between Germans and Turks
in the west German city and speculation is mounting that the
fire could have been a racially motivated attack.

Erdogan is due to visit the site later before going on to
meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Friday.

German television said the Labour Office was just a few
metres (yards) away from the site Erdogan would be visiting.

Police have said the cause of Sunday’s fire is unclear but
they are investigating all possibilities.

Also I have read that some children insist that they had seen someone with a "white face" pouring "something" around/in the apartment before the fire.

Random events or is there a noticable uprise of racial hatred there in Germany ?
