    Default Reforms

I Just got to the polybian reforms and I don't get new units. I already knew I had to build something to ge them, and on the FAQ it says to upgrade my MIC, what is an MIC?

You'll notice your barracks are all at 100% damage now- just destroy those and rebuild them and you're set.

Ok, thanks. But what did MIC stand for. None of my barracks are at 100% destroyed.

Nothing's wrong. Roman barracks are not damaged when the Polybian reform occurs. But you do need to upgrade them in order to recruit the new units.

Ok good, I just have to upgrade the barracks to get the new units, and not destroy?

military-industrial complex (right?) - the group of buildings represented by either factional barracks or regional barracks...i.e. training ground, armourer, store of equipment, etc etc.

MIC is the behind-the-scenes development word that worked its way into the game itself. It is my goal in life to make sure it never appears in any context whatsoever in EB2, because it does not serve to accurately describe anything except a convenient behind-the-scenes shorthand for development purposes.

Here's a quick version of how it barracks operate after a reform:

Camillan to Polybian: upgrade barracks to next level to gain access to Polybian units.
Polybian to Marian: all Camillan/Polybian barracks are damaged by script and a new Marian barracks is built by script. The old barracks can be destroyed, providing you with some quick mnai.
Marian to Augustan: upgrade barracks to next level to gain access to Augustan units.

How come for polybian to marian you have to destroy but not for the others?

The short version is that Camillan to Polybian and Marian to Augustan represent the gradual shifts over time rather than any specific centralized reforms. The shift from Polybian to Marian represents the fairly rapid transformation of the Romani legions as instigated by Marius.

So how come there has to be this mass destruction?

Only 9 buildings in a building tier. So, you can fit the Camilian and Polybian in the same building tier, but the Marian and Augustan have their own building tier. Since you can't upgrade from one group to a different group, the MICs have to be replaced by the script.

    Short answer: hardcoding.

Because RTW won't let us destroy a building by script. IE, hardcoding.

I had the Polybian Reforms, but in Arretium, where I built the highest tier MIC before the reform, the upgrading doesn't work. I can still only build Camillan units there. Even destroying the MIC/government building doesn't change it.

Do I have to wait for Marian to get rid of the Camillans in Arretium? :P

Did you destroy the government building or the barracks(=MIC)? The governement building has nothing to do with it, provided you stick to level 1. Replacing/upgrading the barracks will bring you the new units.

Therefore you shouldn't build the highest barracks in Camillan times.
