Default Star Wars Empire at War

Does anyone here play? I like the fact that it has a campaign map and a battle map, in a way it kind of reminds me of a real time total war type game.

Wasn't the best game I've played but it did have some really addicting parts. Like you said though it is very totalwarish.

'Hate' is way, way too strong a word, but I definitely did not like it. The graphics were pretty, but I did not like the battle mechanics (ground or space) one bit. Campaign map mechanics were... tolerable. In many ways I liked Rebellion much better, but this game does have it's positive points. The best thing you can do is play it yourself to decide if you like it.

    Right, thanks Ichigo
Star Wars Empire at War is one of the best strategy games I have played. Now that tells you how many strategy game I play but the thing at EAW is that its a good game, it could be better sure as all games could. But its really rather addictive.

I posted my thoughts about Empire at War in this thread:https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=79948

Basically: great presentation, no depth. I'm surprised to see it being described in this thread as resembling Total War.

The space battles were a great upgrade from Star Wars: Rebellion, but the land battles were horrible.

Agreed, I think they should make a newer version with better graphics but base it on the Clones era.

The Black Sun Pirates in that game kind of reminded me of the TW rebels.

I think they are rather pointless. Sure put them in so there aren't any empty planet's but pirate suck so bad they get beaten back anyway. I like the expansion where you can be the pirates

I wish the expansion actually let you play as the actual black sun rather than the zann consortium, the consortium doesn't have any of the cool (but weak) ships like IPV and the Z95

Well you can get them, but the Consortium has better stuff. Starvipers would kick a Z95 any day. The Z95's are just an early design of an X-wing, and now the X-wings kill them, even TIE fighters kill them and that's saying something.

I agree. Can't beat Boba Fett's awesome seismic bomb. Though I think that the developers made a major design mistake when they made the campaign map real-time. It would have been so much better if it was turn-based.

I was a little peeved at the fact that heroes can apparently come back to life no matter how many times they get killed. Which is no big deal if you get, say, R2D2/C3PO, but seeing Admiral Piett, or, worse, Admiral Ackbar and their respective flagships again and again is nothing short of irritating, when I've sacrificed a few precious ships to bring down. It also removes any incentive to try and preserve your heroes/leaders, as they'll revive anyway in a jiffy.

The land battles sucked, but the space battles I felt were pretty good, especially the Rebel ships. You can see distinctive battle styles in both Rebel and Imperial fleets-- the Imperials big on offense, the Rebels on speed, defense and special hero units. I particularly liked how you can take out various parts of the ship-- that Interdictor preventing your hyperspace jump? Don't have to destroy the whole hulk, just take out the gravity well generator.

There's nothing like disabling the Star Destroyers with the Y-wings' ion cannons, except for maybe actually commanding an entire fleet of the gargantuan wedgies. And the Slave I too, did I mention Boba Fett and his seismic bomb? One could wipe out an entire squadron if placed correctly.
